Amazon’s 2026 redesign refreshes the Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft families—not the Scribe—and adds a separate accessory that may be a more useful purchase for some existing owners: Kindle Click. The Bluetooth remote turns pages without touching the reader. TechRadar reported a U.S. launch price of $34.99, but that is not confirmation of today’s price or stock. If your Kindle already suits you, Click is worth considering when hands-free page turns would improve how you read; it is not a universal substitute for a new reader.
Which Kindle models did Amazon redesign in 2026?
Amazon’s 2026 announcement covers its Kindle, Paperwhite and Colorsoft families. Amazon says the refreshed readers are thinner and lighter, use a new reverse-stack display construction, and have flush-front displays with color carried from front to back. Those are Amazon’s product claims, not independent test results. The announcement does not include the Kindle Scribe.
Within the refreshed range, the base Kindle is the compact option, Paperwhite remains the waterproof model with adjustable warm light, and Colorsoft is intended for color reading. Signature Edition models add features including 32GB of storage, automatic front-light adjustment, pogo-pin dock charging and double-tap page turning. Check the specifications for the particular model before buying; the family-level description does not mean every feature is on every device.
How this differs from the 2024 lineup
Amazon’s 2024 U.S. announcement covered a new entry Kindle, a new Paperwhite, the first color Kindle and a reimagined Scribe. Amazon described that Paperwhite as its thinnest and fastest to date, with 25% faster page turns and up to three months of battery life. Those were claims about the 2024 Paperwhite, not specifications to assume for the 2026 models. Amazon’s 2024 Kindle announcement provides that earlier lineup context.

What does the $35 Kindle Click remote do?
Kindle Click is a compact Bluetooth remote for turning pages. TechRadar reports two large buttons for moving forward and back, plus smaller side buttons for brightness. Amazon’s examples of hands-free use include reading in bed, on a treadmill or with the Kindle propped at a distance. The accessory changes how you control a reader; it does not add a new display, waterproofing or other reader features.

Is the remote a better upgrade than a new Kindle?
That depends on what you want to improve. Click is a targeted convenience purchase if reaching for the reader interrupts your setup or you want to turn pages while it is propped up. A new Kindle makes more sense if you specifically want a feature your current device lacks, such as Colorsoft’s color display, Paperwhite’s waterproofing or adjustable warm light, or a Signature Edition feature. The remote does not deliver any of those device changes.
- Consider Click if hands-free page turning would solve a recurring problem and your Kindle falls within Amazon’s stated compatibility range.
- Consider a new reader if you want a different display or a device feature that the remote cannot provide.
- Wait or skip it if you usually hold your Kindle and its page controls already work for you; the remote’s value depends on whether its specific convenience is worth the current local price.
Calling Click the “best upgrade” is a reader-specific judgment, not a universal product verdict or the result of comparative testing. Its case is strongest for someone who already likes their reader but wants to control it from a distance.

Amazon also announced a magnetic Page-Turn Cover with physical page-turn buttons for Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition, plus a Charging Dock for those Signature Edition readers. The cover integrates buttons into a case but is limited to those named device families. Click is the standalone remote, with Amazon stating compatibility across new Kindles and models released from 2024 onward.

What to check before buying
- Identify your Kindle model and release year. Amazon’s stated Click range begins with models released in 2024, plus all new Kindle devices.
- Decide whether hands-free turning will matter in your setup. The use case is control from a distance, not a better screen or faster reader.
- Compare accessory fit and current regional price. Click is standalone; the Page-Turn Cover is specified for Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition. The reported $34.99 is a U.S. launch price, not a verified live price.
- Upgrade the reader only for a reader feature. If color, waterproofing, warm light or a Signature Edition capability is the reason for shopping, compare the relevant device rather than expecting Click to supply it.
For the 2026 power-button design rationale, TechRadar quotes Amazon Devices VP of Design Chris Green: “The long and short of it is, it’s got to go on the side,” TechRadar’s Kindle Click coverage reports. The quote concerns design placement; it does not change the accessory’s compatibility or buying trade-offs.
