Amazon Prime Video rentals typically give you 30 days from payment to start watching, then 48 hours from the start of streaming or downloading to finish. The exact window can vary by title, so check the rental terms on that title’s detail page before you pay.
How the two rental deadlines work
A rental has two successive time limits, not one continuous viewing period:
- Start by: You typically have 30 days from payment to begin watching.
- Finish by: Once streaming or downloading starts, you typically have 48 hours to finish.
The 48-hour period does not necessarily add 48 hours beyond the rental’s outer expiration date. Amazon’s Prime Video Usage Rules say you must finish before the applicable expiration window ends; that window is typically 30 days from payment. The terms shown for the individual title take precedence over the typical timing.
Does downloading change the rental period?
No. Amazon applies the viewing period after you commence streaming or downloading, so downloading does not make a rental permanent or reset its deadline. Rental downloads are available only in most cases and depend on compatible devices and location. Amazon’s rules also set restrictions on downloading the same rental to another device and on simultaneous playback in certain circumstances.

Can you replay a rental?
The 48-hour period is the time available to finish watching; the sources do not establish one universal replay count for every rental. Use the title’s displayed terms rather than assuming that every rental has unlimited replays.
Where to check a title’s exact deadline
Before renting, open the individual title’s detail page and review its rental options and the “Learn more about renting and buying” information link. Amazon identifies the title page as the place to find the applicable viewing period. This is particularly useful when a title has an unusual window or you are using a regional storefront.

Amazon UK’s Rent and Buy Prime Video Titles help page says a rental stays in the video library for 30 days and that after pressing play, the viewer has “at minimum 48-hours” to finish; it also notes that some titles have longer viewing periods. That is UK guidance, not a guarantee of identical terms in every region.
