You can create a standard Amazon buyer account with an email address when Amazon’s live sign-up form offers email registration and lets you skip phone entry. Amazon staff say a mobile number is optional, but some people report seeing a phone prompt with no clear way past it. The available options can vary, so there is no guaranteed skip button for every registration attempt.
Set up an Amazon buyer account with an email address

Go to Amazon’s official website or app and choose Create your Amazon account or the equivalent new-customer option. Amazon’s sign-in page provides a route for new users to create an account: Amazon sign-in.

If the form offers email registration, enter your name, an email address you can access, and a password. Amazon’s registration form has shown fields for name, email, password, and password confirmation: Amazon registration.

Complete any email verification Amazon requests. For accounts configured to use email, Amazon can send one-time security codes to the registered email address; sign-in by mobile number is also supported. See Amazon’s account-access help.

If the flow asks for a phone number, select Skip, Not now, or a similar option if one is shown.
Amazon staff have said that providing a mobile number during customer account creation is optional. However, users have also reported registration screens that appear to require one. If the form will not continue without a number, do not enter a false or borrowed number. Confirm you are in Amazon’s standard customer-account flow, then use Amazon customer help if you need assistance.

Why Amazon may still ask for your phone number
Amazon staff guidance that phone entry is optional does not mean every user will see the same registration screen or a visible skip control. A prompt that appears mandatory can therefore be at odds with the general guidance. Buyer accounts, seller registration, and verification are different
Standard buyer account
For an ordinary Amazon shopping account, email can be used as the sign-in identifier and can receive one-time security codes when the account is set up for email access. You may also be able to add a phone number, but staff guidance describes it as optional during customer-account creation.

Seller Central registration
Seller signup is a separate process. Amazon’s US Seller Central registration requirements include a phone number along with financial and tax information, so the buyer-account steps above do not establish that a seller can register without one. See Amazon Seller Central’s registration requirements.
Two-step verification after signup
Account registration and later two-step verification are separate. Amazon KDP’s guidance describes an authenticator app as a way to generate verification codes without cell signal and as an option for people who do not want to use a phone number for that verification method. Can I use email instead of a mobile number on Amazon?
For a standard buyer account, email can serve as the sign-in identifier and may be used for one-time security codes. Use an address you can access, and follow the live form’s available options. This does not mean Seller Central has the same signup requirements.
