To play Amazon Music on an Echo, link the service in the Alexa app if needed, then say, “Alexa, play [song, album, artist, or playlist].” If Alexa starts a different service, set Amazon Music as the default under More > Settings > Preferences > Music & Podcasts > Your Default Services. Link Amazon Music in the Alexa app

Open the Alexa app and select More > Settings > Preferences > Music & Podcasts > Link New Service.

Choose the supported music provider and follow the prompts to link it. Amazon says linked services appear under Manage Services. See Amazon’s instructions for linking music services.

To make Amazon Music the default, go to More > Settings > Preferences > Music & Podcasts > Your Default Services and select it. This prevents Alexa from choosing another provider when a request does not name a service. Amazon’s profile and music service guidance says per-profile defaults require a Voice ID on each Alexa Profile; family settings apply to people without a Voice ID. Some services do not support direct account linking to an Alexa Profile.

For a family plan, Amazon says each user needs an individual Amazon account and must link that account in the Alexa app. You can use “Switch profiles” or “Switch to [profile name]” while listening where supported; Amazon notes profile switching is not supported on Alexa+. Account linking and profile controls can therefore differ by service and device.
Ask Alexa to play music
Say “Alexa,” followed by a specific request. Naming the song or artist helps Alexa identify what you want; naming the service can help when you do not use Amazon Music as your default.

“Shuffle” or “Stop shuffle.”
Amazon’s examples include “Alexa, play Adele” and “Alexa, play jazz music.” Its voice-control examples may not work identically in every country or on every device.
Choose an Amazon Music access option
The listening options depend on your region and account. Amazon’s FAQ says US customers without Prime or an Amazon Music Unlimited subscription can play an ad-supported selection of playlists and stations on compatible Alexa-enabled devices. It describes Amazon Music Prime as a Prime membership benefit and Music Unlimited as a separate subscription with additional features. Check Amazon’s current plan page for availability and terms in your country; do not rely on old pricing.
Amazon’s FAQ presents a catalog of 100 million songs for both Music Prime and Music Unlimited. This is Amazon’s own figure, and the retrieved FAQ does not state the year for it. The FAQ’s page was not accessible when reviewed, so treat those details as less current than Amazon’s recently retrieved setup guidance.

Fix buffering or playback that will not start
First confirm that the intended music provider is supported, linked, and selected as the default. Amazon notes that not every music service is available on Alexa devices, and some providers may not support playback on FireOS devices. If the service is set up correctly, address the Echo’s connection to Wi-Fi.

Move the Echo away from walls, metal objects, microwave ovens, and baby monitors. If it is on the floor, try placing it higher.

Where supported, try the router’s 5 GHz Wi-Fi channel. Amazon’s guidance names Amazon Tap as an exception.
Restart the Echo and network equipment
Restart the Echo and your network hardware, then try the request again. Amazon’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance covers connection steps; its Alexa music troubleshooting page addresses service availability and playback issues.
Do you need a particular Echo?
You need a compatible Alexa-enabled device for voice-controlled playback, but you do not need to buy a new Echo if you already have one that supports Alexa music playback. Amazon’s FAQ specifically names Echo Dot among devices that can control Amazon Music.
