There are seven Oni Armaments to collect in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The Oni Bow and Wind-Whipper are story-linked; the other five are optional chest pickups. Collect the optional items as you pass through their areas, then finish any remaining cleanup before the point of no return ahead of the final mission.
All seven Oni Armament locations
Use this checklist to plan your route. The location cues and item descriptions below are reported by two game guides, rather than an official Capcom location list. The Firebird Flute landmark is described slightly differently between those guides, so check the East Spirit Shrine area south of Gojo Street.

| Armament | Location and route cue | Collection type | Reported combat role |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Two Celestials | Kiyomizu-dera Temple, during “The Stage is Set at Kiyomizu.” Check the chest associated with the second Thread Genma at the second Oni Gate. | Optional chest on the story route | Twin daggers that draw extra Yellow Souls. |
| Oni Bow | Oni Refuge, in a chest on the main path. | Story-required pickup | Ranged weapon with standard ammunition and a weak-point mechanic. |
| Wind-Whipper | Practice Ground, in the reward chest after The Oni’s Apprentice, Ono Takamura’s deflect drill. | Story-linked quest reward | Crowd-control naginata; its whirlwind can interact with nearby flame. |
| Earth-Shakers | Underground Laboratory, Underground Level 4, beyond the fan puzzle. | Optional chest | Twin hammers focused on stamina and armor break rather than ordinary health damage. |
| Firebird Flute | East Spirit Shrine area south of Gojo Street, near the East Spirit Mirror and the area where a Rift had been. | Optional chest | Ranged attack that sends firebirds toward nearby enemies. |
| The Flashing Void | Mount Oe, Castle Courtyard. Find the small cave opening and slide inside. | Optional chest | Lightning spear focused on high single-target health damage. |
| Still Water | Swamp of Arashiyama, on the northeast optional path. | Optional chest; late-route pickup | Sword empowerment associated with Purple Souls and Oni Awakening. |

Which armaments are optional, and can you miss them?
The Oni Bow and Wind-Whipper are tied to story progression. The other five are optional chests, so they are the pickups to watch for while exploring. Guides say areas remain available for cleanup until the point of no return before the final mission; they advise collecting the remaining armaments before crossing that cutoff. This is a late-game cleanup warning, not a claim that every optional chest becomes permanently inaccessible as soon as you leave its area.
#1 Best Overall
- Ultimate Swordplay Action – Master the blade with an arsenal of exhilarating sword techniques in absorbing battles and overcome fierce fights using every tool at your disposal, including environmental hazards and supernatural abilities.
- A Legendary Cast of Characters – Dark fantasy and history collide to tell tales of fabled figures, including Miyamoto Musashi (whose face is modeled after the late, iconic samurai movie actor Toshiro Mifune), plus Sasaki Ganryu, and more.
- Overcome Your Demons – Duel formidable foes in intense boss encounters, standing toe to toe against unfathomably powerful Genma and a sadistic rival swordsman armed with an Oni Gauntlet and devilish powers of his own.
- Explore the Mysteries of Kyoto – Step into a twisted vision of Japan’s historic capital, including faithful recreations of real-life locations like the famed Kiyomizu-dera Temple, as well as otherworldly realms with surreal landscapes.
- Pre-order Bonuses – Reserve an early copy to receive the “Sealed Curse” sword skin and “Lion Dog” charm as bonuses.
Collecting all seven unlocks the Oni Armory trophy or achievement, according to the guides. Some lists show only six because they leave out the story-awarded Oni Bow; include it when checking your total.
Armament route cues that are easy to overlook
Underground Laboratory: solve the fan route
For Earth-Shakers on Underground Level 4, one guide specifies shooting the four thread spools that spin the fans before crossing the wreckage. Continue beyond that fan puzzle to find the optional chest.

Mount Oe: slide into the courtyard cave
The Flashing Void is in a small cave in the Castle Courtyard. Look for an opening low enough to require a slide-in; it is easy to pass without noticing.
Swamp of Arashiyama: take the northeast path
Still Water is not on the main route cue in the guides. Search the northeast corner of the swamp for the optional path and chest.

How to choose an armament
The guides describe distinct combat purposes rather than a tested ranking. Use the role that fits the encounter: ranged attacks are available through the Oni Bow and Firebird Flute; Wind-Whipper is described as crowd control; The Flashing Void emphasizes single-target health damage; Earth-Shakers focus on stamina and armor break; and The Two Celestials and Still Water offer soul-related utility. These descriptions can help narrow a choice, but they do not establish which weapon performs best in a particular build or situation.
Game context
Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a swordplay action game starring Miyamoto Musashi in an Edo-era Kyoto twisted by Malice. Its June 3, 2026 announcement named PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and scheduled release for September 25, 2026; that is the date stated in the announcement, not independent confirmation of current release status. Capcom also reported cumulative sales of 9.1 million units for the Onimusha series as of March 31, 2026; that figure is series-wide, not sales for Way of the Sword. Capcom’s June 3, 2026 announcement provides this game and series context.
