Official status: what is and is not confirmed
Three things are established at this point:
- TheWrap published the report on October 8, 2026.
- The report names Paramount as the studio and CD PROJEKT RED as a producer.
- No corresponding Paramount or CD PROJEKT RED statement confirming the film has been located.
Until either company confirms the project, avoid describing it as officially announced, and avoid assuming any creative details beyond what the report states.
Is this the same project as the 2023 Anonymous Content deal?
This is the question readers are most likely to ask, and the honest answer is that the available sources do not say. CD PROJEKT RED had already announced a live-action project on October 5, 2023, developed with Anonymous Content and AC Studios. The two announcements share a franchise and a developer, but nothing reported so far establishes whether they are the same project, two separate projects, or whether one replaced the other.

The 2023 announcement described the project as at an early stage. CD PROJEKT RED’s own wording at the time was:
“The new project is at an early development stage and has currently commenced searching for a screenwriter to tell a brand-new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.”

That sentence describes the status of the 2023 project on that date only. It does not describe the Paramount project reported in October 2026.

Questions the reporting leaves open
- Will Keanu Reeves be in the film? Unknown. TheWrap says it is not clear whether he will return.
- Who is writing or directing it? Not stated in the report.
- What is the story? Not stated. Any plot description circulating elsewhere is speculation until a studio or developer describes it.
- When would it release? Not stated, and no production schedule is given.
The Doom reference in the headline
The headline calls a Doom film “horrendous.” That is an opinion rather than a reported fact. The reporting available here does not identify which Doom film is meant, and it does not establish the connection to Lorenzo di Bonaventura that the headline implies. Read the headline’s comparison as commentary, not as part of the news.

Sales figures attributed to TheWrap
TheWrap’s 2026 coverage cites two figures: more than 40 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077 sold internationally since its December 2020 release, and more than 15 million copies of the Phantom Liberty expansion. These figures are TheWrap’s. No primary sales statement from CD PROJEKT RED confirming them has been located, so attribute them to TheWrap if you cite them.

- Look for a joint or individual announcement from Paramount or CD PROJEKT RED before calling the film official.
- Check whether any official statement names a director, writer, or cast, since those details would be the first sign of real development.
- Check whether the 2023 Anonymous Content project is mentioned in any new statement. A clarification would settle whether the two are linked.
- Treat release dates, plot details, and casting rumors as unconfirmed until a company or a named trade source with direct access publishes them.
Story details will change quickly as the trade press and the companies respond, so check for official statements before relying on any detail here.
