The Alienware m16 R2 lasted 8 hours and 28 minutes in HotHardware’s 2024 PCMark video-loop test, and measured 38.7–48.2 dBA during its 3DMark stress test. Those results suggest a gaming laptop that can handle lighter use with less fan noise than its class might imply, but sustained CPU and GPU workloads still make the fans spin up. The battery figure is a controlled video-playback result—not gaming runtime.
How long does the Alienware m16 R2 battery last?
HotHardware measured 8 hours and 28 minutes on its test unit, which had a 6-cell, 90Wh battery. The result came from a PCMark Video Loop test: repeated 1080p video playback in Windows 11’s Movies and TV player until the battery ran out. The display stayed on, Wi-Fi was enabled, Focus Assist was enabled, and brightness was calibrated to approximately 115 lux with lux meters. HotHardware’s 2024 test describes this as a strong result for a gaming laptop with a high-resolution display.
Alienware claimed nearly 10 hours, according to the review, so HotHardware’s measured result fell short of that claim. The two figures describe different things: one is the manufacturer’s stated claim, the other a reviewer’s measurement under specified conditions. Neither establishes how long a different configuration will last in everyday use.
Do not use 8 hours and 28 minutes as an estimate for gaming. Video playback, web browsing, creative workloads, and games draw power differently; brightness, wireless activity, and system settings also affect runtime.

Does the Alienware m16 R2 run hot or loud?
HotHardware describes the laptop as comparatively restrained for its class during most mainstream workloads, but says its fans spin up under CPU and GPU load. In a 3DMark stress test looping CPU and GPU workloads, the reviewer measured 38.7–48.2 dBA with a sound-level meter. That range belongs to the review’s test setup; room acoustics, workload, fan profile, and measurement position can change what a user hears.
The review does not provide a specific CPU or GPU temperature result, so there is no temperature figure here to compare against other laptops. Its qualitative thermal assessment is that the machine’s behavior is relatively tame for a gaming notebook, not that it stays cool or quiet under sustained load.

What does Stealth Mode do?
The F2 Stealth Mode hotkey disables AlienFX lighting, changes the keyboard backlight to white, and selects the Quiet power/performance profile. It is a quick way to switch to a less conspicuous lighting setup and quieter profile, rather than evidence that the laptop is silent during demanding work.

Why does HotHardware call it a “sleeper” gaming laptop?
The review’s “sleeper” framing is about the m16 R2’s more subdued redesign compared with traditional Alienware styling, alongside its ability to serve both gaming and productivity needs. It does not mean the system is an ultraportable: the review still identifies it as a gaming notebook whose fans become more noticeable when the CPU and GPU are working hard.

The tested configuration was an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H system with GeForce RTX 4070 graphics, 16GB of DDR5 memory, and a 1TB SSD. HotHardware’s review-era prices were $1,499 starting and $1,849 as tested, published in April 2024; these are historical figures, not current prices or confirmation of present-day availability. The review also listed Core Ultra 9 185H, RTX 4060, and RTX 4050 alternatives, up to 64GB of memory, and storage options up to two 4TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSDs. Those are configurations reported at the time, not a verified current Dell configurator.

The review describes a 16-inch, 2560×1600 display with a 240Hz refresh rate, 100% sRGB coverage, a 3ms response time, and stated maximum brightness of 300 nits. The author found it adequate indoors but identified brightness as a limitation. For a purchase decision, compare the exact CPU and GPU tier, memory and storage, display needs, workload-specific performance, and battery settings against the current price and availability in your region. The review’s April 2024 prices and configuration list should not substitute for checking a current listing.
