Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is a bigger, customizable co-op bug hunt, not a radical reinvention of the first game. Its four-player squads, new Specialist class and Horde mode give fans more ways to fight Xenomorphs, while reviews praise the combat and atmosphere but raise concerns about repetition and technical rough edges. The Xbox-focused review reports glitches, but detailed frame-rate criticism elsewhere comes from PS5 and PC versions—not Xbox testing.
What is Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2?
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is a cooperative third-person action and survival shooter set in the Alien universe. Players take on Xenomorphs, synthetics and other threats as Colonial Marines. Daybreak Game Company and Cold Iron Studios developed and published it in collaboration with 20th Century Games.
The game launched on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store on August 25, 2026. A Nintendo Switch 2 version followed on September 29, 2026. Daybreak announced the launch and editions; Enad Global 7’s release confirmed the platforms and dates.
What changes from the first game?
The clearest change is scale: the sequel supports squads of up to four, rather than three. It also adds a fully customizable Specialist class alongside five other classes. The official game site describes cross-platform co-op, and the Xbox store lists online co-op for two to four players as well as single-player play.

Those additions give returning players more flexibility in team composition, but they do not fundamentally change the core loop of coordinating a squad, managing threats and shooting through alien encounters. The reviews broadly characterize the sequel as familiar, with the new squad size and customization expanding the formula rather than replacing it. Horde mode provides a separate repeatable challenge built around waves of enemies.
How good is the campaign and combat?
The strongest case for the sequel is its moment-to-moment combat. TheXboxHub’s Xbox-focused review praises tense, ammunition-conscious shooting, recognizable sound design, class and perk customization, and satisfying alien fights. GameSpew’s PS5 review also highlights frenetic combat, enemy variety, four-player squads and the range of Specialist builds.
There are reservations. GamesRadar+ describes a 15-mission campaign with an atmospheric but unremarkable story, and criticizes some enemy choices and the pulse rifle sound. GameSpew likewise finds the story disappointing and the overall formula familiar. These are reviewers’ judgments, not measured assessments of campaign quality.

Is it worth playing after the campaign?
Horde mode and build experimentation are the main reasons to keep playing. TheXboxHub reviewer found the mode satisfying and described rounds structured around five waves. GamesRadar+ sees Horde as a possible replay draw, while WorthPlaying’s PC review questions the motivation to return after completing the campaign.
That split points to a practical distinction: players who enjoy repeating combat encounters with different squad builds may get more from the game than those who need a strong post-campaign progression loop or a substantial story-driven reason to replay missions.
How does the Xbox version perform?
TheXboxHub’s September 13, 2026 Xbox-focused review reports glitches including character and cosmetic issues, enemy clipping, and repetitive character lines. It also says matchmaking was readily available during that reviewer’s play. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a broad technical benchmark.

More detailed reports of frame-rate drops, stuttering, item or corpse bugs, crashes and reconnect problems come from reviews of other platforms: GamesRadar+ and GameSpew reviewed PS5, while WorthPlaying reviewed PC. Those observations should not be treated as Xbox Series X|S performance measurements. The Xbox store advertises 60 fps+ capability and Xbox Series X|S optimization, but those are listed features, not independent measurements of frame rate or resolution. No Xbox resolution or sustained frame-rate result is established here.

The Xbox listing supports single-player play and online co-op for two to four players. The official site describes cross-platform co-op, so players can team up across supported platforms. Online console multiplayer on Xbox requires a Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate subscription, sold separately; the Xbox listing also marks the game “Users Interact.”

The themed packs add outfits, weapons and other cosmetic or build items; they are not required for gameplay access. Daybreak describes Ripley’s pack as including an outfit, modified pulse rifle and cosmetics, Herk’s as an outfit, weapon and cosmetics, and Rain’s as a modified Cryo weapon, outfit, traits, perks, augments, decals and colorways. It is easiest to recommend to existing fans who want more squad-based Alien combat, room for a fourth player and deeper class customization. The same evidence makes it a less certain choice for someone expecting a major genre reinvention, a compelling story, extensive reasons to replay the campaign or a proven polished technical experience on Xbox.
The overall pattern comes from a small set of reviews rather than a universal verdict. TheXboxHub’s Xbox-focused assessment is positive about atmosphere and combat but notes glitches; PS5 and PC reviews add concerns about repetition, story and technical issues on their respective platforms. Those distinctions matter if your main buying question is how smoothly the Xbox version runs.
