SentinelOne named Alex Stamos its chief information security officer on August 1, 2024. The role covered security engineering and operations, with a focus on building secure-by-design systems for enterprise customers. It was a historical appointment: by September 29, 2026, Stamos had joined Cognition as chief security officer.

When did SentinelOne name Alex Stamos CISO?

SentinelOne announced the appointment on August 1, 2024. The company said Stamos would oversee security engineering and operations and focus on developing and delivering secure-by-design systems for enterprise customers. SentinelOne’s announcement described the position as part of its security-first approach.

What did the CISO role involve?

A chief information security officer leads an organization’s information-security strategy and programs. At SentinelOne, the stated remit for Stamos specifically covered security engineering and operations. The company also tied the job to making secure-by-design systems for enterprise customers—integrating security into systems and products rather than treating it as an afterthought.

SentinelOne describes its Singularity Platform as an AI-powered cybersecurity platform covering endpoints, cloud workloads, containers, identities, mobile and network-connected devices. That is company context for the appointment, not a claim that Stamos personally led every product area.

Why did SentinelOne hire him?

The appointment was presented as a way to reinforce trust and security across a company whose products and services serve enterprise customers. SentinelOne Chief Product and Technology Officer Ric Smith said that state actors target large cloud and security providers to reach important companies, and that security “has to come first.”

Stamos framed the priority in terms of customer confidence: “Organizations must be able to trust that their providers are focused on chasing adversaries, not dollars.” He said he wanted SentinelOne to set “a new standard rooted in trust, transparency and accountability.” Those statements describe the strategic rationale the company and Stamos gave; they are not, by themselves, an independent assessment of SentinelOne’s security performance.

Who is Alex Stamos?

Before joining SentinelOne, Stamos was chief security officer at Meta and chief information security officer at Yahoo, according to the company’s appointment announcement. His SentinelOne connection began earlier: he joined the company through its 2023 acquisition of the Krebs Stamos Group. He was also associated with PinnacleOne, SentinelOne’s strategic advisory group, as chief trust officer.

SentinelOne announced the PinnacleOne launch on November 9, 2023. The acquisition and advisory work provide context for his move into the company’s formal CISO role; they were distinct from that appointment.

Is Alex Stamos still SentinelOne’s CISO?

No. SentinelOne named him CISO in 2024, but the appointment should not be described as current. Axios reported on August 5, 2025 that Stamos became Corridor’s chief security officer while remaining a strategic adviser to SentinelOne. On September 29, 2026, Axios reported that he joined Cognition as chief security officer and characterized SentinelOne and Corridor as his most recent security leadership roles. SentinelOne’s current leadership page does not list him among its executive leaders.

These later roles distinguish operating leadership from advisory continuity: the 2025 account described a formal security-leadership position at Corridor alongside a SentinelOne adviser role, while the September 2026 account placed his current security-leadership role at Cognition.

How to read the appointment in context

  • Appointment date: August 1, 2024.
  • Stated remit: Security engineering and operations, plus a secure-by-design focus for enterprise systems.
  • Relevant experience: Former security leadership roles at Meta and Yahoo, followed by SentinelOne’s acquisition of the Krebs Stamos Group and his PinnacleOne advisory association.
  • Current-status caveat: Later reporting places him at Corridor in 2025 and Cognition in 2026, rather than as SentinelOne’s current CISO.
