Akamai completed its acquisition of Noname Security in June 2024. Akamai’s announcement put the deal at approximately $450 million; its 2025 Form 10-K later reported $452.3 million in cash. Akamai said the acquisition would strengthen its API security offering, and its 2025 filing says it now offers a complete API security suite.
When did Akamai complete the Noname acquisition?
Akamai announced a definitive agreement to acquire all outstanding equity of Noname Security on May 7, 2024. The deal was subject to customary closing conditions, and Akamai expected it to close in the second quarter. Akamai VP Michael Kleef later identified June 24 as the closing date; Akamai’s completion announcement was dated June 25, 2024. Akamai’s completion announcement confirmed the transaction.
How much did Akamai pay for Noname?
The figures differ by source and level of precision. Akamai described the consideration in its May and June 2024 announcements as approximately $450 million, subject to customary purchase price adjustments. In its 2025 Form 10-K, Akamai reported the acquisition at $452.3 million in cash. The latter is the amount reported in the later SEC filing, rather than the rounded announcement figure. Akamai’s 2025 Form 10-K provides the accounting amount.
Why did Akamai acquire Noname Security?
Akamai said the acquisition would enhance its existing API Security offering in response to customer demand as API use expanded. The company expected Noname’s technology and business relationships to help it serve customers with different API traffic locations, integrations, and deployment requirements, as well as to add sales and marketing resources and channel and alliance relationships. Those points describe Akamai’s stated rationale and expectations, not an independent assessment of the resulting product.

In its May 7 announcement, Akamai said it expected to improve discovery of “shadow” APIs—APIs that an organization may not know are in use—and detection of vulnerabilities and attacks. In its 2025 Form 10-K, Akamai later said it offers a complete API security suite to discover shadow APIs and detect vulnerabilities and attacks.
What changed in Akamai’s API security product?
After the acquisition, Akamai said it was integrating Noname’s API security capabilities with its own into a unified product. On June 25, 2024, Akamai VP of Security Product Marketing Michael Kleef wrote: “We are integrating the best of the Noname API Security and of Akamai API Security to create a unified product: Akamai API Security.” Akamai’s 2025 filing describes the resulting offering as a complete API security suite. This is the company’s description of its product and does not, by itself, establish independent performance results.

In its May 7, 2024 announcement, Akamai said its own data showed 109% year-over-year growth in API attacks. The announcement did not give a separate measurement methodology or define the comparison period beyond “year over year,” so the figure should be understood as an attributed company claim, not an independently audited or market-wide statistic.
The announcement quoted Mani Sundaram, Akamai’s executive vice president and general manager of the Security Technology Group: “Applications run our world, but as applications and users proliferate, so do security risks.” Sundaram used the company’s API-attack figure to explain the need for API protection.
