Choose AirPods Pro 3 if you use an iPhone and want Apple-focused features such as hearing-health tools, workout heart-rate sensing, and a charging-case speaker for Find My. Choose Sony WF-1000XM5 if multipoint connection, LDAC support with compatible devices, or customization through Sony’s Sound Connect app matters more. This is a feature-based recommendation, not a controlled comparison of sound, noise canceling, calls, or comfort.
Which earbuds fit your phone and the way you use it?
The AirPods Pro 3 feature set is most compelling when you use supported Apple devices and software. Apple says they can also work as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, but functionality may be limited. Some features have device, software, language, or regional requirements, so check Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 specifications before buying for a particular feature.
Sony’s WF-1000XM5 specifications list Bluetooth support and multipoint. Its Sound Connect app provides customization and updates, according to the Sony product page. App and feature behavior still depends on the connected device and setup.

| Feature | AirPods Pro 3 | Sony WF-1000XM5 |
|---|---|---|
| Connection and codecs | Bluetooth 5.3; Apple lists no codec options in the cited specifications. | Bluetooth 5.3; SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3 codecs; multipoint is listed as “Yes.” |
| Sound and listening features | Apple lists H2 audio processing, Active Noise Cancellation, Adaptive Audio, Transparency, Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, and Adaptive EQ. | Sony lists ambient sound mode and offers customization through its Sound Connect app. |
| Health and translation | Apple lists hearing test, hearing aid, hearing protection, Live Translation, and workout heart-rate sensing. Availability and requirements vary by feature. | Not stated in the cited Sony specifications or product page. |
| Finding the case | Apple lists a case speaker for Find My. | Not stated in the cited Sony specifications or product page. |
Sony’s LDAC support may matter if your source device and setup support it. The codec listing alone does not establish that you will hear a subjective improvement. Apple’s health and translation features are a stronger reason to choose AirPods only if they are available for your region and compatible devices.

How do the battery claims compare?
Both manufacturers claim up to 8 hours of listening with noise canceling enabled, but that does not establish equal real-world battery life: their published figures are not a harmonized head-to-head test.
| Manufacturer claim | AirPods Pro 3 | Sony WF-1000XM5 |
|---|---|---|
| Listening with noise canceling on | Up to 8 hours on one charge; up to 7.5 hours with Spatial Audio and Head Tracking enabled, or up to 6.5 hours with workout heart-rate sensing, under Apple’s stated conditions. Apple specifications. | Up to 8 hours of continuous music playback. Sony specifications. |
| Listening with noise canceling off | Not stated in the cited Apple specifications. | Up to 12 hours of continuous music playback. Sony specifications. |
| Claim including charging case | Up to 24 hours under Apple’s stated conditions. Apple specifications. | Up to 24 hours total listening time including the case, according to Sony’s product page. |
These are manufacturer estimates, not guarantees. Actual playback depends on settings and use; the cited figures do not show which pair lasts longer in equivalent conditions.

What should you know about durability and charging?
Apple specifies IP57 for both AirPods Pro 3 earbuds and their case. Sony specifies IPX4-equivalent water resistance for WF-1000XM5. Neither rating should be treated as approval for swimming or submersion. Apple lists MagSafe, Apple Watch, Qi, and USB-C charging options for the AirPods case in its technical specifications.
Is there a proven winner for sound, ANC, calls, or comfort?
The official specifications cited here do not establish which model sounds better, cancels more noise, handles calls better, or feels more comfortable. A feature list cannot settle those comparisons. Fit is personal, so prioritize a return policy that gives you time to check the seal and comfort, and consult a direct, independent comparison if sound or ANC is your deciding factor.

Which one should you buy?
- Choose AirPods Pro 3 if you use an iPhone or other supported Apple devices and specifically want Apple’s hearing-health features, workout heart-rate sensing, Find My case speaker, or Apple charging options.
- Choose Sony WF-1000XM5 if you want multipoint, need LDAC with a compatible source, or prefer Sony’s app customization.
- Decide by fit and listening evidence if your main priorities are comfort, sound, or noise canceling; the cited official materials do not prove a winner in those areas.
Apple Support identifies AirPods Pro 3 as introduced in 2025; its technical specifications provide a second reference for the model’s details. Specifications and feature availability can change, so verify current support for your region and devices before purchase.
