For everyday listening, AirPods Pro 3’s clearest advantages over AirPods Pro 2 are its revised fit options, workout heart-rate sensing, IP57 resistance rating, and longer Apple-rated listening time per charge with ANC on. Pro 2 still has a longer Apple-rated total listening estimate when you include the charging case, and Apple lists key hearing features for both generations. The better choice depends on which features you will use, how each model fits, and the price where you live.
What’s different between AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Pro 2?
Apple’s specifications show changes in noise cancellation, fit, battery estimates, workout features, resistance ratings, hearing features, and some controls. The practical differences are summarized below; figures are Apple’s published claims and estimates, not independent comparative test results.

Apple’s “up to” battery figures are manufacturer estimates under controlled conditions. The company says actual battery life varies with settings, environment, and use, so treat them as a point of comparison rather than a promise of your own runtime. [Apple]

Apple says Pro 3 removes up to twice as much unwanted noise as Pro 2, attributing the change to a revised acoustic seal, ultra-low-noise microphones, and redesigned acoustic architecture. This is Apple’s product claim, not an independently measured head-to-head result; the difference you notice can vary with the fit, the sounds around you, and your own perception. [Apple]

Apple also describes Pro 3 as having a multiport acoustic design with deeper bass, a wider soundstage, and vocal clarity. Those are the company’s descriptions, not independent measurements. If sound or ANC is your main reason to upgrade, try both in your usual listening environment when possible rather than assuming the headline claim guarantees a particular result.
Which model may fit better?
Apple says Pro 3’s tips are rotated inward for a more secure fit and include a foam-infused microsphere layer. Its five tip sizes include XXS, an extra-small option. [Apple]
More sizes give you another option to try, but they do not establish that Pro 3 will be more comfortable for every ear. Fit and seal are personal: check that the earbuds feel secure and that the seal works for you. A good seal also matters when judging noise cancellation.

Which AirPods Pro has better battery life?
It depends on whether you mean time between charges or total listening time with the case. Apple rates Pro 3 for up to 8 hours with ANC on one charge, compared with up to 6 hours for Pro 2. But Apple lists up to 24 hours total with Pro 3’s case and up to 30 hours with Pro 2’s case. The estimates use Apple’s stated conditions and actual results vary with use. [Apple]
Pro 3’s one-charge figure is especially relevant if you often listen for long stretches before returning the earbuds to the case. Pro 2’s higher case-total estimate matters more if you prioritize longer overall listening between opportunities to recharge the case. With Pro 3, Apple lists lower one-charge estimates when Spatial Audio with head tracking or workout heart-rate sensing is active.
What do the workout and resistance features add?
Heart-rate sensing
Pro 3 adds heart-rate sensing during workouts. Apple says it works with the Fitness app and compatible third-party apps on an iPhone running iOS 26 or later. If you plan to use this feature, check that your iPhone software and preferred app are compatible. [Apple]

Dust, sweat, and water resistance
Apple lists Pro 3 as IP57 and Pro 2 as IP54 under IEC 60529. These are resistance ratings, not a guarantee that either model is permanently waterproof. Apple cautions that resistance can decrease through normal wear. [Apple]

Apple lists Hearing Test and Hearing Aid support for AirPods Pro 2 and later, subject to compatible hardware and software as well as age, language, and regional qualifications. Hearing Aid is intended for people with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss; check Apple’s current availability and eligibility information for your location before relying on these features. Apple says Pro 3 adds automatic Conversation Boost while using Hearing Aid and provides 67% more battery life in Transparency while that feature is in use. These are Pro 3-specific improvements described by Apple, not a statement that the broader hearing features are exclusive to Pro 3. [Apple]

Pro 2 also has a specific passive hearing-protection rating: Apple’s March 2025 data sheet gives it a passive Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 10 decibels when used as directed. Apple says this passive rating applies when the earbuds have no battery charge or when Off is selected for noise control; it does not apply in Transparency, Adaptive Audio, or Noise Cancellation mode. Pro 3 supports volume adjustment by swiping the stem and a camera-remote control, according to Apple. Its case supports MagSafe, Apple Watch, Qi-certified, or USB-C charging, includes a speaker for Find My, and comes with a USB-C charge cable sold separately. [Apple]

Both models can work as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, but Apple says functionality may be limited. Basic Bluetooth playback is not the same as access to the full set of Apple features: check compatibility for any feature you depend on, including workout tracking, hearing tools, and Apple-device controls. Is AirPods Pro 3 worth upgrading from AirPods Pro 2?
Consider Pro 3 if one or more of its additions solve a real need: workout heart-rate sensing, the new fit and XXS tip option, IP57 resistance, the Hearing Aid improvements, or Apple’s higher single-charge ANC estimate. The choice is more compelling if you regularly listen for long stretches without putting the earbuds back in their case.
Pro 2 remains a reasonable choice if it already fits well, you mainly want everyday listening and ANC, and it costs meaningfully less where you shop. Its Apple-listed total listening estimate with the case is higher, and Apple lists Hearing Test and Hearing Aid for Pro 2 as well as later models. Compare current local prices rather than treating Apple’s US list price as a universal or live retail price: Apple’s US product page listed Pro 3 at $249 when checked on October 7, 2026. [Apple]
