If you want silicone tips, active noise control, or Apple’s listed hearing features, choose AirPods Pro 3. If you prefer a non-Pro design and do not need those features, consider AirPods 5. This comparison is between Apple’s current Pro and non-Pro models; AirPods 4 is a separate model, including a version with Active Noise Cancellation, so check the generation and configuration when shopping.
AirPods Pro 3 vs. AirPods 5 at a glance
| Factor | AirPods Pro 3 | AirPods 5 |
|---|---|---|
| Fit | Silicone ear tips in five sizes: XXS, XS, S, M, and L, according to Apple’s technical specifications. | Non-Pro model. Consider whether you prefer a design without silicone tips; fit and comfort vary by person. |
| Noise control | Apple lists Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), Adaptive Audio, and Transparency. Apple claims up to 1.5x more ANC than AirPods 4 with ANC, tested in accordance with IEC 60268-24. | Apple lists AirPods 5 as a distinct model family. Verify the exact configuration rather than assuming AirPods 4’s ANC features apply. |
| Hearing features | Apple lists Hearing Test, Hearing Aid, Hearing Protection, and conversation-related features; compatibility and availability restrictions apply. | Do not assume Pro hearing features are included. |
| Battery | Apple states up to 8 hours per charge with ANC enabled, up to 7.5 hours with Spatial Audio and head tracking, and up to 24 hours with the case and ANC enabled. These are manufacturer maximums. | A directly comparable current battery figure is not established here. Check the live specification for the exact model. |
| Dust and water resistance | Apple lists an IP57 rating for dust, sweat, and water resistance. Resistance can diminish with normal wear. | Do not transfer AirPods 4’s IP54 rating to AirPods 5; confirm AirPods 5’s specific specification. |
| Price | Prices and discounts vary by region and retailer. Compare the current local prices of the exact generations before deciding. | |
Choose based on fit and noise control
Choose AirPods Pro 3 if you want silicone tips
Pro 3 includes five silicone tip sizes, giving buyers options for a tip-based fit. That does not guarantee a comfortable or secure fit for everyone. If you dislike silicone tips or prefer a non-sealing style, that preference may outweigh the Pro model’s additional features.
Choose Pro 3 if you need more noise-control options
Apple lists ANC, Adaptive Audio, and Transparency on AirPods Pro 3. Apple’s claim of up to 1.5x more ANC is specifically against AirPods 4 with ANC, and follows Apple’s stated IEC 60268-24 test standard; it is not an independent comparison with AirPods 5.

Consider AirPods 5 if you do not need Pro-specific functions
AirPods 5 is the non-Pro model in this comparison. It may suit someone who wants that model family and does not prioritize the Pro’s listed noise-control and hearing features. Confirm the precise AirPods 5 configuration on Apple’s current comparison page before purchase, particularly if ANC is a deciding factor.

What the Pro hearing features do—and their limits
Apple lists Hearing Test, Hearing Aid, Hearing Protection, and additional conversation-related features for AirPods Pro 3. These features are not a substitute for assuming universal availability: Apple notes that some functions require compatible devices and software, and that availability can vary by region or language. Check Apple’s current feature requirements for your location and devices before treating any of these as a reason to buy.
Battery claims and durability
AirPods Pro 3 battery life
Apple’s US technical specification page lists up to 8 hours of listening on one charge with ANC enabled, up to 7.5 hours with Spatial Audio and head tracking enabled, and up to 24 hours with the charging case and ANC enabled. Apple describes these as maximums; actual battery performance depends on settings, environment, usage, and other factors. See Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 technical specifications for the stated conditions.

Resistance ratings are not interchangeable
Apple lists AirPods Pro 3 as IP57 dust, sweat, and water resistant. This does not make them impervious to damage, and resistance may diminish through normal wear. Apple’s comparison page describes AirPods 4 as IP54, but that figure should not be applied to AirPods 5 without checking its model-specific specifications.

Check compatibility, price, and exact generation
- Device compatibility: Apple says its earbuds can work as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, though functionality may be limited. The integrated feature set is intended for Apple devices, and individual features have their own compatibility requirements.
- Generation: Apple’s comparison page lists AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods 5, as well as AirPods 4. Retail listings may use similar names for different generations or configurations, so verify the model number and feature list.
- Local price: No stable regional price comparison applies universally. Compare today’s prices and discounts in your market; do not assume the Pro model is worth a particular premium without considering your needs and the actual price gap.
Apple’s comparison page is regional, so availability and pricing can differ by market. See Apple’s AirPods comparison and check your local Apple store or retailer for the current configuration and price.
