If your AirPods show as connected to a Samsung Galaxy phone but you hear nothing, first check the AirPods’ Bluetooth settings and make sure Audio is enabled. Go to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, tap the settings icon next to your AirPods, and turn on Audio. If calls are silent too, check Calls as well. Menu labels can vary by Galaxy model and software version.
1. Enable audio for the connected AirPods
A Bluetooth connection does not necessarily mean the Galaxy is sending sound to the headphones. Samsung says audio can continue through the phone or tablet speaker if the relevant Bluetooth audio setting is off.
- Open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
- Tap the settings or gear icon beside the connected AirPods.
- Turn on Audio. If call sound is affected, turn on Calls too.
Samsung’s Bluetooth headphone troubleshooting guide and Bluetooth pairing guidance describe checking the headphone audio output settings. Exact labels and paths may differ by Galaxy model or software version.

2. Check media volume and phone-wide mute settings
Raise media volume
Press a volume button and open the expanded volume controls if available. Raise Media volume; ringtone or call volume may be controlled separately. Try playing audio again after changing it.

Turn off Mute all sounds if Galaxy audio is affected broadly
If the phone is silent beyond the AirPods, check Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements > Mute all sounds and turn it off if enabled. For calls or notifications that are silent, also check whether Do not disturb is active. Samsung notes that menu paths can vary and provides further steps in its Galaxy no-sound troubleshooting guide.
3. Find out whether the problem is media, calls, or both
Play a clip in another app, then test a call if call audio is part of the problem. This helps distinguish a media-output issue from a call setting or a broader Bluetooth problem. If only one app is silent, check that app’s playback and mute controls before changing the AirPods connection.

4. Isolate the phone from the AirPods
Use two cross-checks to see which device the fault follows:

- Connect the AirPods to another phone or computer and play audio.
- Connect a different Bluetooth headset to the Samsung phone and play the same kind of audio.
If the AirPods are silent on another device too, the issue may be with the headphones. If other Bluetooth headphones are also silent on the Galaxy, focus on the phone’s settings or connection conditions. Samsung recommends testing with other devices as part of its troubleshooting steps.

5. Check distance, interference, and visible damage
Keep the phone and AirPods close together, remove accessories that may interfere, and restart the Galaxy. Samsung gives 30 feet as a general upper-distance troubleshooting check, not a guaranteed operating range; the useful distance can vary with the environment and headphone model.
Inspect the AirPods for visible damage and for dirt or debris around the speaker openings. Samsung notes that dust, earwax, or other buildup can muffle sound or reduce audio quality over time. Clean only if you see buildup, and follow appropriate care instructions for your AirPods; a cleaning kit will not correct a disabled Bluetooth audio toggle or muted media volume. Samsung’s headphone troubleshooting guidance covers inspection and cleaning. If the headphones are visibly damaged, Samsung says replacement may be necessary.

6. Re-pair using instructions for your AirPods model
If the settings and device tests do not resolve the silence, remove the AirPods from the Galaxy’s Bluetooth list and pair them again using Apple’s instructions for your specific model. Pairing controls differ: some AirPods cases use a setup button, supported newer generations use a double-tap on the front of the case, and AirPods Max has a separate button procedure. Follow Apple’s model-aware pairing instructions for a non-Apple device rather than assuming one button sequence works for every model.

Apple confirms AirPods can work as Bluetooth headphones with Android devices for listening and talking, but Siri is unavailable on non-Apple devices. See Apple’s AirPods setup guidance for other Bluetooth devices. Its pairing pages do not establish one universal reset procedure for the specific connected-but-silent symptom, so avoid treating an unspecified reset sequence as a guaranteed fix.
