Choose AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation if you want an open-ear design with noise control but no silicone tips. Choose AirPods Pro 2 if you prefer a tip-based in-ear fit, want the stronger noise-cancellation claim Apple publishes, value longer stated battery life, or may benefit from Apple’s hearing features. Fit is personal, so try them if you can.

The AirPods 4 column refers specifically to the ANC model. The standard AirPods 4 has a different case and feature set. Apple’s current lineup also includes newer products, including AirPods Pro 3, so Pro 2 is an older generation. Apple’s comparison page is the place to check its current lineup.

Which fit should you choose?
Choose AirPods 4 with ANC for an open-ear style
AirPods 4 with ANC do not use silicone tips to seal the ear canal. Apple described the model as bringing ANC to an open-ear design for the first time in a September 2024 announcement. That makes it the more natural choice if you do not want a tip-based fit.
Choose AirPods Pro 2 for adjustable silicone tips
Pro 2 comes with XS, S, M, and L silicone tips, so you can select the size that suits you. A sealed, tip-based fit may be preferable if that is what you find comfortable, but specifications cannot establish which model will fit an individual better. Try both if possible.

How do their noise-control features compare?
Both models offer ANC, Adaptive Audio, Transparency, and Conversation Awareness. Apple says AirPods Pro 2 has up to 2x more ANC than AirPods 4 with ANC. That is Apple’s manufacturer comparison, not an independent test or a guarantee of the same difference for every listener; fit and use conditions can affect the experience. Which has longer battery life?
Apple’s maximum estimates favor Pro 2. It lists up to 6 hours per charge, or up to 5.5 hours with Spatial Audio and head tracking enabled, and up to 30 hours with the case. For AirPods 4 with ANC, Apple lists up to 4 hours per charge with ANC on and up to 20 hours with the case when ANC is enabled.

These are “up to” laboratory estimates, not guaranteed everyday runtimes. Apple says the AirPods 4 ANC tests used preproduction earbuds and an iPhone 16 Pro Max in July and August 2024; the Pro 2 tests used preproduction earbuds and an iPhone 15 Pro in August 2023. Actual duration varies with settings, environment, and use. Apple provides test details on its comparison page and in its Pro 2 specifications.
What charging options do the cases support?
The AirPods 4 ANC case charges via USB-C, Qi wireless charging, or an Apple Watch charger. Pro 2’s USB-C MagSafe case supports USB-C, MagSafe, Qi wireless charging, and an Apple Watch charger. If wireless charging matters, make sure you are comparing the AirPods 4 ANC version: the standard AirPods 4 case differs.

Are Pro 2’s hearing features a reason to buy?
Apple lists Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features for Pro 2, along with loud-sound reduction and hearing-protection references. Availability and use are subject to device, operating-system, age, and regional limitations; check Apple’s hearing-health feature requirements. These features are not a substitute for medical care. Apple’s current comparison does not list those features for AirPods 4.

AirPods Pro 2’s current price and third-party stock are not established here, and Apple’s Pro 2 shop link redirected to the Pro 3 buying page when checked. Apple’s shop listed AirPods 4 with ANC at $179 at that time, but that is a retrieved listing, not a lasting price. Compare live retailer prices for both models before deciding; without a verified current Pro 2 price, it is not possible to call either the better value.
