A site that appears in an hour can be a useful first draft, but a professional quote may cover more than making pages appear: it can include planning, content, design decisions, revisions, testing, launch work, and ongoing care. To judge a quote, compare its written deliverables and recurring costs with what your generated site already does—and what still needs review or customization. Without the quote’s scope and your location, no single price can be called fair or unfair.

1. What exactly is included in the quoted fee?

Ask for a deliverables list, not just a page count or the word “website.” Two five-page sites can differ substantially in function and in the work required to produce them. A proposal might include only a customized template, or it might also include planning, original design, copywriting, testing, and launch assistance.

Umair Ali Sadaqat’s we.inc website-design cost guide, updated September 26, 2026, says agency work often bundles discovery workshops, a sitemap, wireframes, original visual design, copywriting, revisions, project management, and the build. These are possible inclusions, not a standard package. Ask which are actually in your proposal.

  • Pages and functions: Which pages, forms, booking or payment features, integrations, and mobile layouts are included?
  • Planning and design: Is there discovery or audience research? Is the design a pre-made template, a customized template, or an original design?
  • Content: Who writes and enters the copy, sources images, and organizes existing material?
  • Revisions and testing: How many review rounds are included, and what will be checked before launch?
  • Project and launch work: Does the fee cover project management, domain setup, migration, analytics setup, or launch support?

Published price ranges can provide context, but not a verdict on an individual bid. Sadaqat’s guide reports US-dollar ranges that vary by scope and location: $0–$300 for a template; $1,000–$5,000 for a freelancer in its summary, while its tier table separately lists $500–$1,500 for template customization and $1,500–$5,000 for custom design across 5–10 pages; and $5,000–$30,000+ for an agency in its summary, while the tier table lists $5,000–$15,000 for a small agency and $15,000–$50,000+ for an established agency. It also reports freelance designer rates of $30–$150 an hour and blended agency rates of roughly $100–$250 an hour. These are the guide’s figures, not a universal survey or a consistent set of market boundaries; the differing summary and tier bands are a reason not to treat them as a precise average.

2. What do you need from me, and what will I need to review?

A generated draft can save time, but someone still needs to establish whether its details fit the business. TechRadar’s 2026 comparison of AI website builders notes that prompt-based tools may generate layouts, text, and images, while the available editing and customization vary and generated content commonly needs editing to fit a business and its brand. That does not make AI output inherently unsuitable; it makes review and responsibility worth spelling out.

Before work begins, agree on who supplies and approves:

  • Accurate business details, services, prices, locations, and contact information.
  • Brand assets such as a logo, colors, and photographs, including permission to use them.
  • Page copy, or the facts and approvals needed for someone else to write it.
  • Feedback at each review stage, and the person authorized to give final approval.

Ask whether editing your existing generated site is part of the project or whether the provider is rebuilding it, and what happens if the supplied material is late or changes after approval. In the July 30, 2026 TechRadar interview about AI-generated applications and agency operations, Itai Sadan, Duda’s CEO and co-founder, recommended professional quality review before launch. That is his advice in an interview, not a rule that every site requires the same level of review.

3. What happens after launch, and who is responsible?

A site that works as a prototype still has to be operated. In that same TechRadar interview, Sadan said: “The technical debt challenge with AI-generated applications usually isn’t the code itself. It’s everything required to run and maintain that application over time.” The point is to identify which operational tasks apply to your site and who is taking them on—not to assume every site needs every service.

Ask the provider to separate one-time project work from recurring charges and responsibilities:

  • Hosting and domain: Who pays for them, controls the accounts, and renews them?
  • Security and upkeep: Who handles applicable security work, software or platform updates, backups, and monitoring?
  • Changes and support: Are content edits included? What counts as extra work, and what response time does support promise?
  • Access and exit: Will you own or control the domain, site files, and key accounts? Can you move the site elsewhere, and what happens if the relationship ends?

Get the recurring subscription, hosting, and care costs in writing alongside the initial fee. A low setup price and a larger ongoing commitment are different offers from a higher one-time fee with limited support; compare the total responsibilities and terms rather than the build time alone.

4. How will you check that the finished site works?

Agree on practical acceptance checks before the project starts. For example, specify which forms must submit correctly, which devices or screen sizes will be checked, whether key links and integrations must work, and what access you will receive at handoff. Choose goals that fit the site’s purpose—such as completed inquiries or bookings—rather than relying on a vague promise that the site will “perform.”

If search visibility is part of the proposal, ask for named tasks and distinguish them from promised outcomes. Google’s SEO Guide for Web Developers, last updated December 10, 2025, describes technical considerations including whether Googlebot can find and crawl pages, whether content can be indexed, and the use of links, sitemaps, clear titles, and accessible text. Ask which of these, if any, the provider will address and how the work will be verified.

Those steps do not guarantee that Google will index or rank a page. Google’s Search Essentials, also last updated December 10, 2025, makes clear that meeting its requirements does not guarantee indexing or serving in Search. Treat a guaranteed organic ranking as an outcome promise, not as a technical setup deliverable.
