Straiker announced its emergence from stealth on March 27, 2025, with $21 million in initial funding from Lightspeed Ventures and Bain Capital Ventures. The company introduced two generally available products at launch: Ascend AI for AI security assessment and attack simulation, and Defend AI for runtime protection. The $21 million was the initial round—not its latest reported financing: Straiker announced a $64 million Series A in June 2026 and said its total funding had reached $85 million.
What Straiker announced in March 2025
On March 27, 2025, Straiker said it was emerging from stealth with $21 million in initial funding. The company named Lightspeed Ventures and Bain Capital Ventures as investors. Contemporary independent coverage also reported the launch, funding amount, and availability of the two products.
The announcement positioned Straiker as an enterprise AI security company. Its co-founder and CEO, Ankur Shah, said: “Enterprises must act now to stay ahead of these emerging risks and make AI security a top priority.” That statement describes the company’s rationale for the launch; it is not an independent assessment of the products.
What Ascend AI and Defend AI were designed to do
Straiker described the two modules as generally available at launch. The capabilities below reflect the company’s March 2025 descriptions, not independently verified performance results.

Ascend AI: assessment and attack simulation
Ascend AI was presented as a way to assess AI systems and simulate attacks against them. Straiker said customers could run a one-time assessment or use continuous testing.
Defend AI: runtime protection
Defend AI was described as providing security and safety guardrails during runtime, with automated blocking for risks identified by Ascend AI. Straiker said it was intended to protect against threats beyond prompt-level attacks.

How Straiker’s funding changed after launch
The later financing announcement makes clear that the $21 million figure belongs to the March 2025 launch, not the company’s latest reported total. Straiker announced a $64 million Series A on June 29, 2026, and said the round brought its total funding to $85 million.

These amounts and investor details come from Straiker’s announcements. The company’s newsroom also lists a product expansion announcement in March 2026, indicating that its product story continued after launch; that listing alone does not establish the performance or scope of later features.

What Straiker focuses on now
Straiker currently identifies Ankur Shah as co-founder and CEO and describes a broader focus on agentic-AI security. Its listed areas include prompt-injection defense, MCP security, autonomous red teaming, and runtime protection. The March 2025 announcement establishes that Straiker launched with $21 million in initial funding and made Ascend AI and Defend AI generally available. It does not, by itself, show how well either product detects or blocks attacks in real-world deployments.
