For keeping an AI influencer recognizable across different scenes, shortlist tools with explicit character-reference controls—not services described as “unrestricted.” Midjourney Omni Reference, Leonardo.Ai Image Guidance, and Runway Gen-4 References document character-focused workflows; Adobe Firefly documents style and structure guidance, but the cited materials do not establish a dedicated identity-lock feature. None of these controls guarantees an exact match, and the available documentation does not support ranking 11 tools or naming a quality winner.
What “unrestricted” and “full character consistency” actually mean
“Unrestricted” is not a reliable technical description of an image-generation service. Features vary by model and mode, and services can apply content rules or moderation. Runway, for example, publishes a usage policy that describes restrictions and moderation; its March 6, 2026 policy also addresses using another person’s image, video, or audio without permission. Read the policy for the service and account you plan to use rather than assuming a tool permits every subject or use (Runway Usage Policy).
Likewise, “full character consistency” is an aspiration, not a documented guarantee. A reference image can guide a new generation toward the same character while the prompt changes the setting, lighting, clothing, or treatment. The vendors describe reference features as guidance, not as proof that every facial feature, proportion, or detail will remain identical. Expect to review and iterate on results, especially for a character used repeatedly in a series.

Which AI influencer tools have documented character-reference workflows?
This shortlist compares what the vendors document, not independently measured output quality. Reference count is a capacity limit, not a fidelity score.

| Tool and feature | Documented reference workflow | Important version, cost, or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Midjourney Omni Reference | Uses one image to guide a character, object, vehicle, or non-human creature into a new creation. | Current Omni Reference documentation specifies V7, says generations use twice the GPU time of regular V7 images, and lists compatibility limitations. The docs direct V8.x users to the Edit Model. |
| Leonardo.Ai Image Guidance | Newer workflow supports up to six uploaded images, with prompt instructions for how the references should come together. | The August 25, 2026 help-center update describes the workflow. API documentation lists low, mid, and high strengths for Content Reference and Character Reference. |
| Runway Gen-4 References | Supports up to three references in one generation and describes carrying a character across lighting, locations, and treatments. | Available reference types depend on the model. Runway also documents saved references and labels for reuse; its usage policy applies. |
| Adobe Firefly references | Style and structure references can influence visual qualities such as color, texture, lighting, and composition. | The cited materials establish visual look and structure guidance, not a dedicated character identity-lock feature equivalent to the three workflows above. |
Feature details come from the vendors’ documentation: Midjourney Omni Reference, Leonardo Image Guidance and its API guide, Runway Gen-4 References and its reference-media guide, and Adobe’s reference-image help, Firefly API concept guide, and updated style-reference page.
How do you keep the same character across images?
Use a clear, reusable reference and keep the character description stable while changing only what the scene requires. The reference steers the model; it does not guarantee identical results. A practical workflow is:

- Choose a useful reference. Pick an image where the defining features are visible and not obscured. For workflows that accept multiple images, use them to clarify the same character rather than supplying conflicting designs.
- Describe identity separately from the scene. Keep a short, consistent description of the character’s distinguishing features. Then specify the variable elements—such as location, pose, clothing, or lighting—in a separate part of the prompt.
- Use the feature that matches the goal. Choose a character-reference control when the priority is identity. A style reference can guide color, texture, or visual treatment, but those are not the same as preserving a particular person or character.
- Generate and inspect a small set of changes. Compare facial features, hair, proportions, and other identity cues. If the result drifts, simplify the scene prompt or adjust the references and guidance rather than assuming the tool has locked the character.
- Save the approved reference and prompt notes. Reuse them for subsequent scenes. Where a service supports saved references or labels, use that facility to keep the source material organized.
Runway’s guide describes applying references across different locations, lighting, and treatments, while Midjourney and Leonardo document their own reference mechanisms. In each case, the output is influenced by the input rather than guaranteed to reproduce it exactly.
Which version and reference feature should you use?
Midjourney: choose the reference feature by model version
Midjourney’s current Omni Reference page documents the feature for V7 and allows one reference image. It distinguishes the feature from a style reference: Omni Reference is for bringing a character or other subject into a new creation, while style guidance concerns the look of the image. The documented two-times GPU-time cost relative to regular V7 images and compatibility limits make it worth checking feature support before building a workflow around it. The page points V8.x users to the Edit Model (Omni Reference documentation).

Do not carry older Character Reference instructions forward blindly. Midjourney’s documentation repository says the legacy --cref applies to V6.0, V6.1, and Niji 6, while V7 users are directed to Omni Reference (Midjourney documentation FAQ).
Leonardo.Ai: consider it when combining several references
Leonardo’s August 25, 2026 help-center update describes up to six uploaded images in its newer Image Guidance workflow and lets users instruct how references should come together. Its API guide lists low, mid, and high strengths for Content Reference and Character Reference. These controls give users options for reference-based iteration; a larger reference limit does not establish better identity fidelity (Image Guidance help; API guide).

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Runway: consider it for reusable references across scenes
Runway documents up to three references in a Gen-4 References generation and gives examples involving a character in different lighting, locations, and treatments. Its separate reference-media guidance says supported reference types depend on the model and describes saved references and labels for reuse. Check the model-specific guidance when planning a workflow; a feature available for one model should not be assumed to work identically in another (Gen-4 References guide; reference-media guide).
Adobe Firefly: consider it for visual direction, not an established identity lock
Adobe’s cited materials describe style references for qualities such as color, texture, and lighting, as well as style and structure references for control beyond a text prompt. That can help maintain a broader visual treatment across a project. The cited documentation does not establish that Firefly offers a dedicated character identity lock, so do not assume style consistency alone will preserve an influencer’s face or other defining features (Adobe reference-image help; Firefly style-reference page).

How should you choose a tool for an AI influencer?
- Start with the model you intend to use. Check version and mode support before selecting a feature; Midjourney’s legacy and current reference systems, for example, are not interchangeable across all versions.
- Match the reference control to the job. For recurring character identity, prioritize explicit character-reference features. For a consistent palette, texture, or composition, style and structure controls may be more relevant.
- Consider reference capacity and workflow. One, three, or six accepted images describe how many references a feature can take—not the quality of its output. Saved references and prompt instructions may matter more to an ongoing series than the raw count.
- Check iteration costs and restrictions. Midjourney documents higher GPU-time use for Omni Reference relative to regular V7 images and lists feature compatibility limits. Review each vendor’s current terms and policy for your intended use.
- Use likenesses responsibly. If a reference depicts a real person, confirm you have permission and follow the service’s rules. Runway’s policy specifically discusses using another person’s image, video, or audio without permission (Usage Policy).
- Judge with your own repeatable prompts. The product pages establish feature descriptions, not a controlled comparison of character fidelity. Test the same reference and scene variations in the services you are considering before committing a series to one workflow.
What this shortlist can—and cannot—tell you
The official documentation supports a useful shortlist of four services with different reference approaches. It does not establish a defensible ranking of 11 products, comparable current subscription prices, affiliate eligibility, or a quality winner. For a decision about character continuity, compare the supported model and reference workflow against your needs, then evaluate outputs using the same character, prompts, and scene changes.
