A green build shows that the checks configured for a project passed; it does not prove that an AI-assisted fix is correct. Tests may have been weakened, deleted, or changed to accept the very behavior the fix should prevent. In this practical 60-minute workshop, reviewers define what the change must do, inspect the code and test changes, run relevant checks, challenge the fix with independent cases, and record a human decision.
What does a green build actually prove?
It proves only that the checks that ran passed in their current form. That result is useful, but it is not independent assurance if the same change also altered what those checks test. The OWASP Foundation warns that AI-generated changes can make CI green by deleting failing tests, weakening assertions, replacing real dependencies with mocks, or asserting buggy behavior. OWASP’s Secure Coding with AI guidance therefore calls for human review of AI-generated test modifications, not just inspection of the final test status.
For reviewers, the key question is not simply “Did the tests pass?” It is “Do the implementation and the evidence still support the intended behavior?”
Run this 60-minute verification workshop
The schedule below is a practical way to apply the guidance, not a curriculum prescribed or validated by NIST or OWASP. Adapt the checks to the change’s risk and your project’s normal review process.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
0–8 minutes: Define the claim
State the behavior the fix is supposed to change, the behavior that must remain stable, and what evidence would count as success. Make the claim specific enough to check. For example: “Malformed payloads are rejected without changing how valid payloads are processed.”
- Identify the affected users, inputs, interfaces, and dependencies.
- Separate the behavior being corrected from nearby behavior that should not change.
- Agree on observable success and failure conditions before reviewing the test results.
8–20 minutes: Inspect the full diff
Read the implementation alongside changes to tests and project configuration. Pay special attention to edits that can change what CI runs or what its results mean.

- Look for deleted tests, weaker assertions, or tests that now assert the questionable behavior.
- Check whether mocks have displaced real dependencies in a way that hides the relevant behavior.
- Review dependency-version changes against current vulnerability information; model knowledge may not reflect later disclosures.
- Inspect files that execute in build or deployment contexts, including package scripts, CI workflows, Dockerfiles, and build files.
OWASP specifically advises heightened human scrutiny for test modifications and build or deployment files. A test suite’s passing result cannot resolve concerns introduced by changes to the suite itself.
20–35 minutes: Run checks suited to the change
Run the project’s relevant unit, integration, and regression tests, then choose further checks according to the behavior and risk involved. NIST’s July 2024 SP 800-218A, an AI-focused SSDF community profile, identifies several forms of testing for AI models: “Several forms of code testing can be used for AI models, including unit testing, integration testing, penetration testing, red teaming, use case testing, and adversarial testing.” It also suggests automating tests in a development pipeline as regression tests where possible.

That guidance concerns AI model development; it is not a universal certification requirement for every AI-assisted code change. Its useful lesson here is that test type should follow the claim and risk, rather than defaulting to one green test suite.
35–48 minutes: Challenge the fix independently
Exercise the intended behavior with negative, boundary, or adversarial cases relevant to the change. Prefer checks that were not generated by the same AI agent that proposed the fix and its tests. Examples to consider, where applicable, include invalid inputs, expired tokens, malformed payloads, boundary conditions, and concurrent access. These are prompts for selecting cases, not a checklist that every change must satisfy.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Ask what input or condition would expose the original failure.
- Test whether the fix rejects or safely handles that condition.
- Check a valid case and a nearby boundary case to catch regressions.
- For security-sensitive behavior, consider whether penetration, red-team, or adversarial testing is warranted.
48–60 minutes: Decide and record
A human reviewer should own the acceptance decision and be responsible for the change’s correctness, security, and maintenance. Before the project’s normal approval and merge process, record which evidence passed, which relevant checks were run, what remains uncertain, and whether the change is ready. OWASP recommends explicit developer approval before merge; a green pipeline does not replace that accountability.

| Decision factor | What to ask |
|---|---|
| Behavior covered | Does the check exercise the changed unit, its integration with real dependencies, system behavior, or relevant security behavior? |
| Independence | Was the check authored or reviewed independently of the AI-generated implementation and tests? |
| Failure modes | Does it cover negative, boundary, or adversarial inputs that matter for this change? |
| Risk | How serious would a defect be, and is the selected verification proportionate to that impact? |
| Repeatability | Can the check be run consistently and, where practical, retained as a regression test in the development pipeline? |
