People are using Google’s Nano Banana Pro to generate fake photos and videos of themselves alongside celebrity lookalikes. The scenes can look like a selfie or a behind-the-scenes encounter, but they are AI fabrications—not evidence that the person met the celebrities.
What the AI celebrity selfie trend shows
In a report published December 21, 2025, Futurism’s Frank Landymore described people using Google’s Nano Banana Pro to make images and videos that place them beside famous-person lookalikes. One example depicted a walk through a film set with Hollywood actors; another styled actors as characters from Dragon Ball Z. Examples circulated on Reddit and X, including a Reddit post titled “I met many celebs.”
These are synthetic scenes produced with image-generation software. They do not establish that the creator met the people depicted or visited the locations shown. The report described mixed reactions online, including criticism of one post that was later deleted. The examples document coverage of the trend at that time; they do not establish how popular it is now.
How are people making AI celebrity selfie images and videos?
The tool named in the coverage is Nano Banana Pro, also called Gemini 3 Pro Image. Google introduced it on November 20, 2025, as an image-generation and editing model built on Gemini 3. Its launch announcement listed access through the Gemini app and other Google consumer, professional, and developer services. The cited coverage shows the results, not a verified step-by-step workflow for making them. It therefore does not establish the exact prompts, settings, or video-generation process behind each example. The key point is that the images and videos are created depictions, not camera records of real encounters.
Can viewers tell whether a Google-generated image is AI-made?
Google said images generated with its tools carry an imperceptible SynthID watermark. At launch, Google also said images made by free and Google AI Pro tier users would retain a visible Gemini sparkle watermark; that visible mark was removed for Google AI Ultra subscribers and in Google AI Studio. Those details describe Google’s stated treatment of its own generated images, not a universal test for synthetic media from every source. Google separately announced an image-checking feature in the Gemini app. That feature should not be treated as a universal detector: the announcement concerns Google’s own tools and does not establish that the app can identify every AI-generated image online. How big is the trend?
Futurism quoted creator Pablo Prompt claiming a video received “+8 MILLION views in 1 day.” That is the creator’s self-reported figure, not an independently verified count. The available coverage does not provide an independent measure of the trend’s overall reach or persistence, so the claim should not be used to infer how widespread the behavior is.
