Ahrefs Brand Radar and Profound both track whether brands appear in AI-generated answers, but they approach the job differently. Ahrefs pairs an AI Visibility Index built from search-backed prompts with optional custom prompt tracking and related search and social discovery. Profound’s Answer Engine Insights focuses on tracked prompts, visibility metrics, citations, and sentiment within a broader AI marketing platform. Choose based on whether you need broad discovery or closer analysis of a defined question set; available vendor documentation does not establish a universal winner or a matched accuracy comparison.
What each tool is designed to answer
These products address questions such as: Does my brand appear in ChatGPT and other answer engines? Which sources do those answers cite? How does my visibility compare with competitors? The answer depends on the prompts sampled, the engines monitored, and how each vendor collects responses. A score from one service is not automatically comparable with a score from the other.
- Ahrefs Brand Radar: Combines an AI Visibility Index based on search-backed prompts with separately offered custom prompt tracking. Ahrefs also presents the product as a discovery tool connected to SEO and selected video and social channels.
- Profound Answer Engine Insights: Tracks selected prompts and reports prompt-level visibility, relative rank, share of voice, citations, and sentiment. It is one component of Profound’s broader platform.
How their monitoring approaches differ
Ahrefs: broad discovery plus optional exact prompts
Ahrefs describes its AI Visibility Index as a way to discover a brand’s presence across prompts modeled on search behavior. Its Help Center says the index covers more than 405 million search-backed prompts and seven AI platforms; that total is dynamic and should not be treated as a fixed database size. The product page has also shown a different prompt total, underscoring that published counts can change. Neither figure establishes how accurately the tool reflects the full range of real conversations.

Its Help Center says prompts are sent to supported AI platforms’ web versions without stored user data or prior context, and are entered in the location corresponding to their source keyword. Ahrefs also notes that monitoring can be constrained when a platform requires a login or has no free public version. These are the vendor’s descriptions of its method, not an independent audit. #1 Best Overall
Profound: prompt-level tracking and analysis
Profound’s Answer Engine Insights centers on prompts selected for monitoring. Its prompt-tracking page describes daily monitoring and provides a Visibility Score, Visibility Rank, Share of Voice, and citation data for each tracked prompt. Profound also describes prompt volumes, competitor rankings, citation sources and authority, keyword themes, sentiment, and multi-region and multi-language monitoring. Its Help Center says the current Answer Engine Insights Visibility Score uses non-branded prompts, an important distinction when interpreting the number or comparing it with another metric.
Profound says its system sends prompts to answer engines and captures the responses as data points. Its documentation also describes a FactCheck feature that compares claims with a brand’s source of truth. These descriptions explain the vendor’s product; they do not amount to a neutral performance study. How to interpret visibility scores, mentions, and citations
A visibility metric is meaningful only in relation to the prompts and responses included in its calculation. A broad discovery index and a user-selected prompt set answer different questions. Even when two tools use a label such as “share of voice,” the underlying prompt mix, engines, locations, and collection cadence may differ.
- Visibility or mentions: Indicates whether the brand appeared in the collected answer set, subject to each vendor’s definitions and sampling.
- Rank: Describes relative position among brands mentioned for a prompt; it does not by itself show how often the brand appears across all prompts.
- Share of voice: Compare only after confirming the prompt set and denominator. A figure from a non-branded prompt set is not interchangeable with one that mixes branded and non-branded queries.
- Citations: Show sources referenced in collected answers. Citation counts and cited domains can help identify patterns, but do not establish that a source caused a brand mention or that changes will improve future visibility.
For a useful internal comparison, choose the same target markets, languages, answer engines, and prompt themes, then record each tool’s cadence and definitions. Treat differences as directional unless the vendors’ samples and calculations are demonstrably aligned.

Which tool fits your monitoring job?
Choose Ahrefs when broad discovery is the priority
Brand Radar is a plausible fit if you want to explore brand visibility across a large search-backed prompt set, find cited pages and domains, and connect AI discovery with other Ahrefs visibility context. It may also suit a workflow that begins with broad discovery and then adds specific buyer questions through custom prompt tracking. Check the current platform list and subscription requirements before selecting access.
Choose Profound when prompt-level analysis is the priority
Answer Engine Insights is a plausible fit if you have a defined set of questions and want to monitor responses, compare brands, inspect citations, and analyze sentiment. Consider the wider Profound platform only if its additional page, crawler, or content workflows are relevant to your team; do not assume every platform feature is part of Answer Engine Insights or included in every plan.
Ask both vendors the same questions
- Which answer engines, countries, and languages are included in the specific plan?
- How are prompts selected, and can you distinguish branded from non-branded prompts?
- How often are responses collected, and how much prompt history is retained?
- What prompt, engine, seat, or report limits apply, and which features cost extra?
- Can you export prompt-level answers and citations so your team can audit the sample?
- What subscription or account prerequisites apply, and what is the current total price for your intended configuration?
Pricing and plan caveats
Ahrefs’ Help Center, accessed October 7, 2026, listed $199 per month for access to one AI platform index and $699 per month for all-platform access; it also listed custom prompt tiers. Ahrefs’ product page, accessed the same date, advertised custom prompts starting at $50 per month and AI Visibility Index access starting at $199 per month. These are vendor-published USD figures, not guaranteed quotes; plan details, entitlements, taxes, and regional pricing can change. Check the current Ahrefs Brand Radar page and help documentation before budgeting.

What the available comparison can—and cannot—establish
The official product and help pages support a comparison of the two vendors’ described workflows and features. They do not establish an independent head-to-head accuracy benchmark, prove that either product increases AI visibility, or identify a universal best choice. Prompt totals published by vendors are not evidence of accuracy or market leadership. Treat the decision as a fit question: broad discovery and adjacent visibility context on one side, prompt-focused measurement and analysis on the other.
