An Rialálaí Agraibhia (Agri-Food Regulator) supported the Savoury Pantry categories at Blas na hÉireann 2026, the Irish Food Awards. The sponsorship connects the awards’ recognition of food producers with the Regulator’s separate role promoting fair and transparent business-to-business relationships in the agri-food supply chain. It does not mean the Regulator judged, certified or endorsed any individual product.
What the Agri-Food Regulator supported
The Regulator announced its support for the Savoury Pantry categories on 17 August 2026. The announcement named chutneys, oils, jellies and salt as examples, and also referred to seasonings, dressings and sauces. These are examples of the category’s product types, not product recommendations.
Blas na hÉireann’s official schedule listed the Savoury Pantry presentation for 4pm on Friday, 2 October 2026, in Dingle, with results also due to be announced online. The available schedule and event coverage do not establish the winners, so the sponsorship and planned presentation should not be taken as confirmation of results.
What the Regulator does for food suppliers
The Agri-Food Regulator says its remit is to promote fairness and transparency in business-to-business relationships across the agricultural and food supply chain. Its August announcement says suppliers of agri-food products have legal protection against 16 specified unfair trading practices by larger buyers. It describes such practices broadly as conduct that departs from good commercial conduct and conflicts with good faith and fair dealing.

The Office says a supplier who believes they have been subject to an unfair trading practice can make a complaint to the Regulator. The announcement is not a full statement of the law; the relevant legislation and current regulator guidance are the appropriate sources for legal detail or an individual situation. The Regulator describes itself as an independent statutory Office established under the Agricultural and Food Supply Chain Act 2023.
How the 2026 awards fit into the event
Blas na hÉireann described 2026 as the competition’s 19th year, with more than 200 food and drink categories. The Irish Examiner reported on 1 October 2026 that the awards had received more than 3,000 entries across those categories. The entry figure is the Examiner’s report; the official overview confirms the category count but does not state an entry total.

The organizer describes Blas as the island’s biggest blind tasting. It says its judging criteria and system were developed with UCC’s Food Science Department and are recognized as an international industry standard; that characterization is Blas na hÉireann’s own description.

Why the sponsorship matters
The awards and the Regulator address different parts of the food business. Blas na hÉireann recognises food and drink producers through its competition; the Regulator focuses on the commercial relationships suppliers have with buyers. Regulator CEO Niamh Lenehan said the partnership brings those aims together, saying the awards help producers succeed while the Regulator promotes fair and transparent relationships across the supply chain. Blas chairperson Artie Clifford likewise connected producer support with the importance of fairness and transparency.
That connection explains the category sponsorship, but it does not change the Regulator’s role into product assessment. Its announcement concerns support for the Savoury Pantry categories, not an official verdict on any entry.
