In the reported HHGoa 2026 TigerGraph challenge implementations, a fraud-risk score is a starting signal—not a verdict. The investigative goal is to connect a transaction to relevant customers, cards, devices, regions and prior cases, show how strong that evidence is, identify what is missing, and recommend only an action allowed by policy. Participant reports describe these approaches; they do not establish the official challenge requirements or scoring rubric.
What does agentic fraud investigation mean here?
It is a workflow in which an agent helps investigate a fraud alert by gathering and organizing evidence, rather than treating a score as a complete explanation. A case may begin with a risk score, a customer dispute or an analyst request. The system then examines connected records and historical context, assesses uncertainty, and determines whether more evidence is needed before a recommendation is made.
The phrase describes participant-reported designs for HHGoa 2026, not a verified official definition of the task. The official Task #4 brief and rubric were not available in the sources reviewed.
How does the investigation move from alert to decision?
- Open the case. Start from the transaction, dispute or analyst request and record the question the investigator needs answered.
- Gather connected evidence. Traverse relevant relationships among transactions, cards, customers, devices, regions and prior investigations. Retrieve pertinent case history and policy context where available.
- Assess the evidence. Explain which records support or weaken a suspected pattern, preserve uncertainty, and note gaps that could affect the decision.
- Request more information when useful. If a missing item could change the assessment, the workflow can ask for that evidence and reassess when it arrives.
- Apply policy and route the decision. A deterministic policy layer constrains recommendations. Consequential actions may be sent to a human for approval rather than executed automatically.
- Record the outcome. Some participant designs describe saving investigation results as case memory for future investigations. This is a reported capability, not a confirmed feature of every entry.
What role does TigerGraph play?
TigerGraph provides the relationship and traversal layer: it can represent entities and links so an investigator can follow connections beyond one transaction. GraphRAG can assemble connected evidence with relevant case or policy context, while workflow orchestration manages the sequence of investigation, evidence requests and reassessment. Deterministic rules and human approval controls then limit what the system may recommend or do.
#1 Best Overall
One participant describes using TigerGraph Savanna Cloud and LangGraph. That is an example of an implementation, not evidence that either product was required by the challenge or that all participants used the same architecture.
Why use a graph instead of inspecting one transaction at a time?
A transaction viewed alone may show a risk score but not the surrounding relationships. Graph traversal can reveal how a transaction connects to other activity through shared cards, customer identities, devices, regions or prior cases. That connected view can help an investigator test patterns and retrieve historical context that would be harder to see by examining a single record.
A link is not proof of fraud. Shared entities and historical matches are evidence to evaluate, not automatic grounds for adverse action. A useful investigation should make clear which connections were found, what they support, and what remains uncertain.

Participant descriptions characterize the challenge dataset as based on IEEE-CIS Fraud Detection/Vesta material, with transaction records, identity or device information, prior investigations and benchmark cases. One report says transaction rows have risk scores but no direct Is Fraud label. These are participant claims, not confirmed specifications from an official dataset card or challenge brief.
Rank #3
A public repository describes its own FraudGuard AI project as operating over approximately 590,000 transactions, 144,000 identity records and 5,565 historical closed cases. Those counts refer to that project’s reported data, not independently verified IEEE-CIS statistics or a universal HHGoa dataset size. No published benchmark outcome or performance figure in the available material can be treated as an independently established cross-project result.
How should two implementations be compared?
The following are practical comparison dimensions reflected in participant descriptions, not confirmed official scoring categories:
Rank #4
| Dimension | What to examine |
|---|---|
| Graph coverage | Whether the system can retrieve relevant multi-hop relationships among transactions, entities and prior cases. |
| Evidence traceability | Whether each finding can be traced to the records and relationships that support it. |
| Uncertainty and evidence requests | Whether the system distinguishes established evidence from unknowns and identifies useful missing information. |
| Policy enforcement | Whether deterministic rules constrain recommendations and actions. |
| Human approval | Whether consequential decisions are routed to an appropriate reviewer. |
| Case memory and auditability | Whether investigation context and outcomes are persisted in a way that supports later review. |
| Reproducibility | Whether implementations are evaluated on the same benchmark and under comparable conditions. |
| End-to-end latency | Whether timing is measured across the complete workflow under comparable conditions, rather than inferred from an isolated graph query. |
Claims about case counts, detection outcomes, latency or benchmark performance should remain attached to the specific project that reported them unless another party reproduces the results under comparable conditions.

- What happened in the transaction or case, and what question is being investigated?
- Which entities and prior cases are connected, and through what evidence?
- How strong is the evidence, and what uncertainty remains?
- What additional information could change the assessment?
- Which action does policy permit, and who must approve it?
- What was recommended, what was approved, and what evidence supported the recorded decision?
These checks keep an agent’s output useful to an investigator without confusing a plausible graph pattern with a confirmed finding or implying that a system automatically blocks accounts or files regulatory reports.
