Afterpay Card: How to Set It Up for In-Store Wallet Payments

Add Afterpay to a digital wallet from the Afterpay app: open In-store, choose the Afterpay Card setup option, tap Add to wallet, and follow the on-screen prompts. In the published Australia setup flow, that includes entering an SMS code. The exact wallet choices and labels depend on your country and device.

What adding Afterpay to a wallet does

It adds the digital Afterpay Card to a supported wallet for eligible in-store contactless payments. It does not add your Afterpay account balance or require you to search for a generic Afterpay payment method inside the wallet app. Afterpay describes the card as a digital card added to a supported wallet in its Australia setup instructions.

How to add the Afterpay Card

1. Open the official Afterpay app and sign in.

2. Go to In-store or In-Store.

3. Choose the in-store payment or Afterpay Card setup option. In the Australia instructions, the steps are labeled pay in store and setup the card.

4. Tap Add to wallet and follow the wallet setup offered for your device and region.

5. Complete any verification requested. The published Australia flow sends an SMS code; enter it and tap Next, then continue through the prompts. Other regional flows may differ.

These labels come from published instructions and may not match every app version exactly. Afterpay’s US instructions also direct customers to start in the app’s In-store tab and follow the prompts to add the digital card.

What you need before setup

• Afterpay in-store eligibility: Availability depends on your region and account. Afterpay’s US page notes that eligibility criteria apply and additional verification may be required for in-store access.

• A compatible wallet and device: Afterpay directs customers to check the relevant Apple Pay, Google Wallet, or Samsung Pay requirements. For Apple Pay, Apple lists a compatible device, a supported card from a participating issuer, an Apple Account signed in on the device, and Face ID, Touch ID, Optic ID, or a passcode as setup prerequisites. Some issuers may require additional authentication; see Apple’s setup checklist.

How to use the card in a store

At a participating checkout, open your supported wallet, select the Afterpay Card, and tap your phone at the payment terminal. Afterpay Merchant Support describes the basic pattern as selecting the card in Apple Pay or Google Pay and tapping to pay; see its in-store payment guidance. Merchant acceptance and access remain subject to the rules for your region and account.

If “Add to wallet” is missing or setup fails

A missing option does not by itself establish whether the issue is the device, region, account, or app. Check these items before trying again:

• Update the Afterpay app, sign in, and check the In-store section for the card setup option.

• Confirm that Afterpay in-store access is available for your country and account.
