After three months of using the JBL Go 5 mainly in the shower and carrying it around the house, TechRadar’s writer says it has become their favorite small Bluetooth speaker. The price cut makes the recommendation more appealing: the article reported an Amazon offer of $29.95 on October 6, 2026, though that deal may have changed. JBL’s official US page described the Go 5 as IP68-rated, waterproof and dust-proof, and drop-proof—useful protection for a shower-side speaker, not a guarantee against damage in every circumstance.
Why the Go 5 works as a shower speaker
The strongest case for the JBL Go 5 is its combination of compact size and water protection. JBL lists dimensions of 10.1 × 7.74 × 4.3 cm and a weight of 0.23 kg, so it is easy to move between rooms rather than leave permanently in the bathroom. JBL describes it as IP68 waterproof and dust-proof, and drop-proof. Those are manufacturer claims; they do not mean the speaker is indestructible or establish safe conditions for every kind of water exposure.
TechRadar’s October 6, 2026 article says its writer used the Go 5 mainly in the shower and also carried it around the home for three months. That is the basis for the personal recommendation, rather than an independently reproduced long-term test.

JBL lists Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity and 4.8 W RMS output. The official US product page showed a $39.95 price against $54.95; TechRadar reported a lower Amazon offer of $29.95 against $39.95 in its October 6 article. These are snapshots, not guaranteed current prices, so check the seller’s live listing and stock before buying.

TechRadar’s May 13, 2026 review said the Go 5 was released in April 2026 with a US list price of $54.95. The product page’s displayed price and retailer deal can differ by seller and date.
Battery life and charging
JBL specifies up to 8 hours of maximum music playback, or up to 10 hours when Playtime Boost is used. These are manufacturer maximums, not a promise of the same runtime in every listening situation. The official product page says a USB cable is not included, so check what charging cable you already have before ordering.

Should you buy the JBL Go 5?
If you want a small speaker to move around the home and use near the shower, the Go 5 has a practical mix of portability, manufacturer-rated water and dust protection, and straightforward Bluetooth connectivity. TechRadar’s writer’s three-month account supports a personal recommendation, while the lower reported Amazon price improves the value if it is still available. At a higher price, compare current alternatives and decide whether the Go 5’s size and protection matter more to you than greater output or longer playback.
