Fremantle defender Luke Ryan has urged the Dockers to recruit forward Bobby Hill and Geelong defender Lawson Humphries, according to a 3 October 2026 report by The West Australian. The report’s accessible headline and search summary do not establish that Fremantle has made an offer, that either player intends to move, or what Ryan said to explain his recommendation.
What the report says—and what it does not
The West Australian published Josh Kempton’s story on 3 October 2026 under a headline saying Ryan urged Fremantle to recruit Hill and Humphries. The accessible article page is subscriber-only; its search summary describes Hill as a free-agent forward and Humphries as a Geelong defender. Ryan’s exact words, the setting for his remarks and his reasons are not available in the accessible account. The West Australian report
That is a recruitment recommendation, not evidence of a completed step in a deal. The available account does not report an offer, negotiations, an agreement, or either player’s view about a move.

Before the Ryan story, Zero Hanger reported on 30 September 2026 that Fremantle was interested in Humphries and that Geelong was aware of that interest. It described Humphries as contracted to Geelong through the end of 2028. This is media reporting, not confirmation from either club, and it does not establish a deal or a player decision. Peter Bell had also publicly recommended Humphries
On 11 September 2026, SEN reported that former Fremantle football boss Peter Bell had recommended the Dockers target Humphries. Bell expressly said he did not know whether the players he named would be interested: “There’s just three names. I have no insights into whether any of them would be interested.” The remark is Bell’s, as reported by SEN; it is not a quote from Ryan or evidence of inside knowledge about player intentions. - Ryan’s exact wording, the context for his recommendation and his reasoning.
- Any agreed terms or final trade outcome for either player.
The accessible account of the Ryan story supports a narrow conclusion: he urged Fremantle to pursue two players. The separate Humphries reports add context about reported club interest and his reported contract, but do not fill in the unanswered questions about a potential move.
