Eluard – Protector of Souls is an original Lightbearer mage in AFK Arena whose kit combines area damage with shields and protection for the forward-most ally. His main trade-off is timing: he can protect a teammate and turn his own shield into damage, but when his passive shield breaks he is stunned before a replacement appears. A BlueStacks guide recommends particular teammates and a +30 Signature Item; those recommendations are dated advice, not a guarantee of current best-team or best-investment status.
Which Eluard does this guide cover?
This is the original Eluard, titled “Protector of Souls,” an Ascended Lightbearer mage. The BlueStacks guide describes him as a mage-support hybrid: his area damage matters, but so do his shields and protection for an ally. AFK Global’s character page likewise describes the original as focused on area damage. AFK Global character guide.

Version 1.58 patch notes say the new Lightbearer Eluard was added and list a test-play time of 2021-02-26 at 01:00 local test-server time. The notes are dated 2021-03-01; that test-server time is not a global release timestamp. Version 1.58 patch notes.
Do not confuse him with Awakened Eluard, titled “Catalyst of Fate.” That is a separate Lightbearer mage with a distinct burst-damage kit; version 1.196 patch notes say he was added in June 2026. The original Eluard’s shielding skills and the older guide’s team suggestions apply to Protector of Souls, not Catalyst of Fate. Awakened Eluard character guide · Version 1.196 patch notes.

What Eluard’s skills do
Sanctimony: choose between a shield and area damage
Sanctimony creates a Divine Shield worth 180% of Eluard’s maximum health if he does not already have one. If he already has a Divine Shield, he consumes it instead and damages all enemies for 20% of the consumed shield’s value, capped at 500% of his Attack Rating. Higher skill levels raise the shield scaling to 220% and then 260%. This makes the skill’s immediate result depend on whether the shield is still available: it is defensive when applied and offensive when consumed.
Divine Miracle: a second shield with a vulnerable interval
This passive gives Eluard a shield worth 150% of his maximum health at battle start. When it breaks, he is stunned for eight seconds, then creates a replacement shield worth 150% of maximum health. Higher skill levels reduce damage received while he is unshielded and shorten the stun to five seconds. The break therefore creates a meaningful exposure window rather than an uninterrupted chain of protection.

Prayer of Protection: guard the forward-most ally
Eluard recites scripture to grant the ally farthest forward immunity from all damage. The recitation can be interrupted. One upgrade extends the immunity for three seconds after the recitation ends or is interrupted; another removes most debuffs from the target when the recitation begins. Because the target is determined by formation, placement affects who receives this protection.

After reciting, Eluard deals 220% damage to all enemies. For each allied hero an enemy has slain, the damage against that enemy increases by 50%; a higher-level version raises that per-ally-slay increase to 80%. The skill can be interrupted, so its damage is not assured if the recitation is stopped.

How to think about his formation and team role
- Check who is forward-most. Prayer of Protection targets the ally farthest forward, and Golden Visage also supports a forward ally. Arrange the formation around the teammate you intend to protect rather than assuming Eluard chooses a preferred hero.
- Account for interruptions. Prayer of Protection and Judgment both involve recitations that can be interrupted. Their intended effects may not complete in a fight where Eluard is stopped.
- Plan for the shield-break stun. After Divine Miracle’s shield breaks, Eluard remains vulnerable during the stun before the replacement shield appears. The BlueStacks guide suggests Hendrik as temporary cover during this interval, but does not establish that this is a universally optimal pairing.
- Decide whether the team needs protection or damage. Sanctimony consumes an existing shield to deal area damage. Its offensive use trades away that shield, so the timing depends on whether the team can afford to lose the protection.
What the older BlueStacks guide recommends
The BlueStacks guide recommends taking Golden Visage to +30 and presents Eluard as a possible counter to Ainz Ooal Gown. It names Athalia as an offensive pairing after +30, Hendrik as cover when Eluard’s shield is down, and Gorvo as another shield-heavy partner. Treat these as the guide’s recommendations, not current meta conclusions: the article is undated, and team value can depend on game mode, formation, opponents, and account resources. For context, AFK Global’s database lists Golden Visage’s progression this way:
| Investment | Listed effect |
|---|---|
| +30 | Shields the farthest-forward ally other than Eluard for 100% of that ally’s maximum health; the ally gains 40% Attack Rating while the shield exists. |
| +40 | Adds a shield for the ally with the highest initial Attack Rating. |
| 3/9 furniture | Extends Prayer of Protection’s damage immunity to Eluard. |
| 9/9 furniture | After Sanctimony is used for the first time, the next Prayer of Protection extends immunity to all allies. |
These are listed progression effects, not a recommendation that every account should pursue them. A July 2026 community usage and investment tier-list post records debate about Eluard’s usage and additional investment; it is player discussion, not official guidance or a universal investment threshold. Eluard’s in-game story
In the game’s fictional lore, Eluard was a devout believer who could not perceive the Divine Light. During a heresy ceremony in M’Arjie, he intervened but saw the Divine Light of Judgement too late to save the girl. He later became an Oracle of the Heretic Inquisition. The lore includes the uncredited line: “Those that do not follow the light, give themselves to the dark.” BlueStacks guide · AFK Global character guide.
