The annual fee for the American Express Aeroplan Reserve Card and Aeroplan Business Reserve Card is scheduled to rise from $599 to $799. Existing cardmembers will see the higher fee on their first annual-fee billing date after January 12, 2027—not automatically on that date. Air Canada says the refreshed Canadian Aeroplan card benefits begin January 12, 2027, with value that depends on your card tier and how you travel.
Which Aeroplan card fees are changing, and when?
American Express Canada announced the two fee increases on September 29, 2026. The change applies to its consumer and business Reserve cards:

The dates serve different purposes: Air Canada’s refreshed Canadian Aeroplan card benefits are scheduled to start January 12, 2027, while an existing Reserve cardmember’s new annual fee takes effect at their first annual-fee billing date after that date. The American Express announcement confirms these fee changes; it does not establish increases for TD- or CIBC-issued Aeroplan cards. Air Canada says issuers will communicate separately about cardholder-agreement changes.

What changes with Aeroplan card rewards and benefits?
The refresh combines flight-reward savings with travel credits and airport benefits. The package differs by tier, so a benefit advertised for Reserve should not be assumed to apply to every Aeroplan card.

15% off eligible Air Canada flight rewards
For eligible Air Canada flight rewards, the discount reduces the base-fare portion by 15%, compared with the points required for the same itinerary when booked by a member without a card. The primary cardholder must sign in to Aeroplan to see the discount. It does not reduce taxes, fees, surcharges, or other charges. Air Canada describes a temporary 15% flight-reward promotion for bookings through January 11, 2027; that offer is distinct from the scheduled refreshed benefits starting January 12, 2027.
There is also a separate Air Canada Flight Benefit delivered through the AC Wallet for cash flight bookings. Each issue is valid for six months, and it cannot be applied to flight rewards.

The wallet benefit is for cash flight bookings, not flight rewards. The tier chart lists the 15% flight-reward saving and the hotel and car-rental reward-booking benefits for all three tiers.

Reserve-specific benefits
For the consumer Aeroplan Reserve Card, American Express lists up to $100 annually toward Air Canada travel in the AC Wallet, expanded worldwide Maple Leaf Lounge access, up to six complimentary Priority Pass lounge passes a year, eight complimentary passes at select Aspire Amex lounges in Canada, and priority security at select airports for the cardmember and up to eight companions on the same reservation. It also lists a spend-based 10% bonus-points structure and a $200 annual dining credit at eligible participating Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants.
The Business Reserve announcement lists up to $100 annually in Air Canada wallet credit, 15% Air Canada flight-reward savings, expanded lounge access, priority security at select airports, and the fourth-night hotel and fourth-day rental reward benefits. It does not list the consumer Reserve dining credit or spend-based bonus, so those should not be treated as confirmed Business Reserve benefits.

Fourth-night hotel and fourth-day car-rental redemptions
Air Canada describes a points reduction for qualifying bookings of at least four consecutive nights with participating hotel providers or four consecutive rental days with participating car providers. The reduction equals the average points cost of one night or rental day in the booking. These benefits may help members who have enough points and make qualifying bookings, but they are not cash rebates and depend on participating providers and reward availability.
How to judge whether the $200 fee increase is worth it
There is no established, independently measured average value for the refreshed package against the additional $200 annual fee. Whether it works for you depends on the benefits you will actually use, rather than the headline value of every listed perk.

- Flight-reward redemptions: Estimate how often you book eligible Air Canada flight rewards and how many points go toward their base fare. The 15% reduction applies to that portion, not to the full booking cost.
- Wallet credit: Count the credit only if you expect to make eligible cash flight bookings before it expires. It cannot offset a flight reward.
- Dining: For the consumer Reserve, include the $200 annual dining credit only to the extent that you would use it at eligible participating restaurants. The announcement does not list it for Business Reserve.
- Airport benefits: Consider how often you would use lounge passes, lounge access, or priority security, and whether the available locations and guest rules fit your trips.
- Points-funded hotel and car bookings: Include the fourth-night or fourth-day benefit only if you regularly redeem points for qualifying consecutive bookings with participating providers.
- Spend-based bonus: For the consumer Reserve, check the applicable spending conditions and whether your normal spending would earn the bonus without changing your habits.
If most of the package would go unused, the higher fee may be difficult to justify. If you regularly redeem Aeroplan points on eligible Air Canada flights and use the card’s travel and dining benefits, those features could matter more—but personal usage, not a guaranteed return, determines the result.
What is confirmed for other Aeroplan cards?
American Express Canada’s September 29, 2026 announcement covers five Amex Aeroplan cards overall and says enhancements are also coming to an invite-only American Express Air Canada card, with details to follow directly to cardmembers. The stated $599-to-$799 increase is specifically for the consumer and Business Reserve cards. The available Air Canada tier information describes benefits across Premium, Core, and Entry tiers, but does not establish a new TD or CIBC annual fee. Check the notice from your own issuer for account-specific fee and agreement changes.
