The AEG L8WEC166R is a freestanding, front-loading washer-dryer from AEG’s 8000 series, rated for 10 kg of washing and 6 kg of cotton drying. Whether it is worth buying depends on three things the feature list does not settle: whether you can still buy a new unit, whether its dimensions and utility requirements suit your home, and how much weight to give AEG’s care claims, which no independent test of this model has confirmed.
Capacities: what “10 kg wash / 6 kg dry” means
The L8WEC166R is a combo unit. One drum washes and dries, so the two capacities are not used at the same time. AEG’s Australian product page and the user manual give the following figures:

In practice, you can wash a full 10 kg load but should plan to dry no more than 6 kg of cottons or 4 kg of synthetics in one cycle. Anything larger needs to be split.
Dimensions and fit
The dimension figures differ between sources in how they label depth, so check the total depth before anything else.

Measure against the 660 mm total depth, not the 630 mm body depth. The manual asks you to confirm clearances for the hoses, the door and ventilation for your specific installation, so allow room for those as well.
Maximum spin speed: 1600 rpm or 1550 rpm?
Sources disagree, and the documents do not explain why. AEG’s product page and UK brochure give a maximum spin of 1600 rpm, while the manual’s technical-data table gives 1550 rpm. When you quote the figure, name the source and its date.

Care technology: what AEG claims
AEG markets four named technologies on the L8WEC166R. Each is a manufacturer description. The sources do not include comparative testing showing better cleaning, fabric life or performance than other machines.

ÖKOMix
AEG’s product copy states: “Advanced OKOMix technology blends detergents and then softeners with water before they enter the drum.” This is the only description of the mechanism in the sources, and it is a claim about how the machine dispenses detergent, not a measured result.
DualSense
AEG describes DualSense as using different programmes for different fabrics. The manual lists cotton, synthetics, delicates, wool/handwash, outdoor and wash-and-dry programmes.
ProSense
ProSense is AEG’s load-sensing feature. The manual also notes that ProSense adjustments can change the laboratory consumption values discussed below.

ProSteam
AEG’s product page describes ProSteam as a steam function. The sources do not describe how it works or which programmes use it, so check the manual for the specific programmes before relying on it.
Programmes and energy use
The manual’s Cottons Eco reference
The manual gives one laboratory reference point: the 60°C Cottons Eco programme with a 10 kg load, which uses 0.86 kWh and 61 litres of water and runs for about 265 minutes. The manual says these values depend on load quantity and type, ambient and inlet water temperature, water pressure, voltage and ProSense adjustments. It also says the Eco programme lengthens the wash to reduce energy use. Treat the figures as a single test-condition reference, not a forecast of your household’s bill.

The brochure rates the machine energy efficiency class A. The Currys Business listing shows separate washing and drying classes of B and E. These come from different rating contexts and dates, so they cannot be merged into one rating. Before comparing with another machine, check the energy label for your market and the model you are considering.
Installation requirements
The manual sets out the following requirements:
- A cold-water connection with inlet pressure between 0.5 and 8 bar.
- A 230–240 V supply, 2200 W overall power and a 13 A fuse.
- The supplied new hose set or an authorised replacement. Do not reuse an old hose set.
- Only AEG-approved accessories, which the manual says are needed to maintain appliance safety standards. The listed accessories include a fixing-plate kit for plinth installation and a pedestal with drawer.
Have a qualified installer handle the electrical and water connections, and read the manual’s safety section before installation.
