The AEG HK654200XB is a four-zone induction cooktop with useful control and timer features, but whether it is a good fit depends first on its installation requirements and local availability. AEG lists the model as discontinued in Australia, so this is best read as a guide to the appliance and its suitability—not confirmation that it is currently for sale or a hands-on performance review.

What the AEG HK654200XB offers

AEG describes the HK654200XB as a full-induction cooktop with a black ceramic-glass surface and stainless-steel trim. Its four cooking zones use DirekTouch slider controls. The manufacturer lists a 7.4 kW connected load and a hardwired connection.

Its documented features include power boost, AutoMax automatic heat-up, Stop + Go, keep warm, pot sensing, a function lock, sound off, automatic switch-off, and three timer functions: minute minder, Öko timer, and CountUp timer. AEG says AutoMax brings a selected zone to boiling and then reduces it to the chosen power setting; that is a manufacturer description, not an independently measured cooking result.

Zone sizes and power

The four zones differ in size and rated power, so cookware placement matters. The manual also gives a minimum pan diameter for each zone.

Duxtop Portable Induction Cooktop, Countertop Burner 1800W Silver 9600LS
  • PORTABLE INDUCTION BURNER: Duxtop induction cooktop uses 110/120 V 15 amp electrical outlet–standard in all North American homes. ETL listed and built to North American electrical standards. It is lightweight and compact for easy handling and storage
  • Choose from 20 preset power levels (100 to 1800 W) and 20 preset temperature level settings (100 °F to 460 °F). With an 83% energy efficiency, induction burner is more efficient than traditional gas or electric stoves
  • DIGITAL LCD SENSOR: Touch control panel: child safety lock keeps the cooking and timer settings from being accidentally changed once they have been set; fast boil button; keep warm button (for 1-30 minutes at 140 °F); up to 10-hour timer button
  • Induction stoves rely on cookware to heat, so it’s essential to choose magnetic bottom cookware with a minimum diameter of 5 inches. Auto-pan detection will shut off automatically after 60 seconds if no cookware, or the incorrect cookware is detected
  • Although induction itself is a noiseless process, there may be high pitched sounds from the cookware due to multiple layers of metals sandwiched together. Please allow the induction cooker to cool down before cleaning
Position and zone size Nominal power Boost power Minimum pan diameter
Left front, 210 mm 2300 W 3700 W 180 mm
Left rear, 180 mm 1800 W 2800 W 145 mm
Right rear, 180 mm 1800 W 2800 W 145 mm
Right front, 145 mm 1400 W 2500 W 125 mm

According to the manual, boost can run for up to 10 minutes on the three larger zones and up to 4 minutes on the right-front zone. Actual zone power can vary slightly with cookware material and dimensions. These figures describe rated capability; they do not establish real-world boiling times or comparative cooking performance.

Controls and everyday functions

Slider controls and timers

DirekTouch provides touch-based slider controls for selecting a heat setting. The listed timers cover different needs: the minute minder counts down, Öko timer is a cooking timer, and CountUp tracks elapsed time. Consult the manual for operating details and any limits that apply to a particular function.

Will it fit your worktop and electrical supply?

Do not judge replacement compatibility by width alone. AEG gives the cooktop body dimensions as 576 × 516 mm and the worktop cutout as 560 × 490 mm. CHOICE rounds these to 58 × 52 cm and 56 × 49 cm. Use the exact installation documentation and the rating plate on the specific unit rather than rounded listings.

The listed connected load is 7.4 kW, and the connection is hardwired. Before replacing an existing hob, have the opening, clearances, electrical supply, and installation assessed against the appliance documentation and local electrical and building requirements. The model’s dimensions do not by themselves show that it is a drop-in replacement.

Which cookware works?

The manual lists cast iron, steel, enamelled steel, stainless steel, and appropriately marked multilayer cookware as suitable. Aluminum, copper, brass, glass, ceramic, and porcelain are listed as unsuitable on their own. A quick screening check is to see whether a magnet sticks to the base; the manual also recommends a flat, thick base. Magnetic response is a screening guide, not a promise of equal performance across all pans.

Portable Induction Cooktop, Induction Burner 1800W
  • 【CHECK YOUR PAN FIRST — MAGNET TEST + FLAT BASE 4 –10 IN】Works only with magnetic, flat-bottom cookware: cast iron, magnetic 430 stainless steel, or enameled iron. Fridge-magnet test on the flat bottom: clings = works; slides = no heat. Not for aluminum, copper, glass, ceramic, or non-magnetic 304 stainless steel. Measure the flat magnetic base, not the rim: 4 –10 in (10–26 cm). Round-bottom/warped pans or small magnetic dots won’t work. “E0” = pan mismatch, not a defect.

Availability, warranty and support

AEG Australia labels the HK654200XB a “Discontinued Product.” That indicates its status on the Australian manufacturer page; it does not prove that every retailer or other market has no remaining stock. Confirm the exact model and its condition with any seller, and check local warranty eligibility before purchase. AEG’s Australian page lists a five-year domestic warranty, but applicable terms depend on region and purchase circumstances.

What this review can—and cannot—establish

The official product page and manual document specifications, features, installation information, and operating guidance. They do not establish measured cooking times, energy savings, reliability rates, or a comparative performance score. CHOICE has a model page with basic specifications, but its expert rating and some other fields are member-only in the accessible page. There is therefore not enough accessible evidence here to make an independent performance verdict.

CHOICE lists A$2,249, but the currency and present-day availability of that listing are unclear. It should not be treated as a current offer or a typical price for a discontinued model.

How to decide whether to buy or keep one

  • Check installation first: match the precise cutout and clearances, confirm the hardwired supply is appropriate, and follow local requirements.
  • Check your pans: confirm induction compatibility and compare base diameters with the zone minimums.
  • Assess the layout: the left-front zone has the highest listed nominal and boost power; the right-front zone is smaller and has the shortest boost limit.
  • Verify the specific unit: because the model is discontinued in Australia, confirm its identity, condition, warranty terms, and local support before committing.
  • Compare evidence, not just feature lists: when considering another four-zone induction cooktop, compare installation dimensions, connection requirements, zone layout and ratings, controls, cookware needs, warranty and service, and independent test results where available.
