On most Samsung Galaxy phones, go to Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts > Add account > Google, then sign in or follow the prompts to create an account. You may need to confirm the phone’s PIN, pattern, or password.
How to add a Google Account on a Samsung phone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup.
- Tap Manage accounts.
- Tap Add account, then select Google.
- Enter the email address and password for the Google Account you want to add. To create an account, choose the account-creation option shown on screen and follow its prompts.
- Complete any sign-in, security, consent, or setup steps. If prompted, verify with the phone’s screen-lock PIN, pattern, or password.
These are the usual steps in Samsung’s Galaxy account instructions and Google’s Android account guidance. Menu names and screens can differ by model and software version.
What to do if the menu labels are different
Google’s Android instructions list several possible names for the accounts area, including Passwords & accounts, Users & accounts, Passwords, passkeys & autofill, Password, passkeys & accounts, and Manage accounts. Samsung also notes that available screens and settings vary by model, software version, and provider.
If you do not see Accounts and backup, look in Settings for Accounts, open the account-management option available on your phone, and choose Add account > Google.

What adding the account makes available
Information associated with the Google Account, such as email and contacts, can be added to the device. Google’s setup guidance also describes access to calendar and other account data. Google apps and services can use the account, subject to its settings and sync choices.
If you cannot add the account
Samsung identifies a weak network connection and outdated phone software as possible obstacles. Try these checks, then repeat the add-account steps:

- Check that the phone has a working network connection.
- Restart the phone.
- Check for and install available software updates.
- Try adding the account again.
If setup still fails, follow Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance for adding a Google Account. It includes additional Google Play Services troubleshooting and advises contacting Google support if those steps do not solve the problem.
If the account is added but data does not sync
Check whether Auto sync data is enabled. If syncing still fails, Samsung suggests removing the account and adding it again. Before removing it, make sure you have the account email and password available so you can sign in again. See Samsung’s Galaxy account-sync troubleshooting steps.
