If you want disposable-camera character without adding effects in editing, the Adapted Optics Everyday Lens is a compact 32mm manual-focus lens designed to put softness, blur, flare and other optical imperfections straight into your mirrorless camera’s images. Adapted Optics lists it at $99 USD; confirm the price, availability and your camera’s mount on the manufacturer’s product page before ordering.
What makes the Everyday Lens different?
Created by Thomas Spicher, the 3D-printed lens uses recycled disposable-camera optics to produce an intentionally lo-fi look. It is not pitched as a conventional lens for maximum sharpness: its appeal is the character created by optical imperfections. That makes it a creative choice for photographers who want the effect in-camera rather than added afterward.
In an interview with Amateur Photographer, Spicher described the approach this way: “We are creatives, not editors.” He also said, “Working with fewer tools makes you more creative,” referring to his own practice of carrying one camera and the 32mm lens. These are the creator’s views, not claims that the lens will suit every photographer.

How do focus and aperture work?
Manual focus
The lens has manual focus and a 180-degree focus throw. Adapted Optics lists a minimum focus distance of 10 inches (25.4 cm); Amateur Photographer describes it as able to focus from close detail to infinity. The minimum distance is useful for close subjects, but focusing is manual rather than autofocus.
Interchangeable aperture plates
The included aperture options are f/7, f/10, f/16, f/23 and a cross-shaped creative aperture. Swap plates to alter exposure, depth of field and motion rendition, as the manufacturer describes. The shaped plate is intended to create distinctive bokeh; the available sources do not provide measured results for particular scenes or settings.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want a distinctive, imperfect look created optically and are comfortable focusing manually.
- Check first that your camera mount is offered, the current checkout price works for your budget, and the lens’s lo-fi character suits the pictures you intend to make.
- Look elsewhere if your priority is conventional sharpness, autofocus or a lens whose performance has been established through independent testing; the available sources do not document those qualities.
Adapted Optics describes the lens as a way to create imperfections in-camera. Spicher told Amateur Photographer, “I think we’re in a unique time where technology is at an all time high,” while discussing interest in analogue options alongside technological progress. The Everyday Lens expresses that preference as a practical creative tool, not a substitute for every standard-purpose lens.
