The Acer Vero HL6810ATV is a 4K UHD projector that is most convincing in a darkened room. What Hi-Fi? found it capable of crisp, engaging images and responsive gaming, but ambient light weakened its picture, its built-in speaker was underwhelming, and its included Android TV setup had drawbacks. Consider it if you can control the room lighting and plan to use separate audio; its 4,000-lumen specification alone does not make it a dependable living-room projector in daylight.

What the Acer HL6810ATV is

The HL6810ATV is Acer’s Vero-branded DLP projector. Acer specifies a 0.65-inch UHD DMD and a hybrid laser/LED light source, with 4K UHD resolution of 3,840 × 2,160. It supports HDR10 and HLG. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independently verified measurements in the available review material. Acer’s product information describes the included Android TV dongle as the route to its smart-TV features.

Acer rates brightness at 4,000 ANSI lumens in Standard mode and 3,200 ANSI lumens in ECO mode. These are Acer’s stated figures; the What Hi-Fi? review did not provide an independent measured brightness result. The distinction matters because a published lumen rating does not by itself establish how forceful a projector’s image will look in a room with ambient light.

How good is its picture?

Dark-room viewing

What Hi-Fi? found the HL6810ATV more assured in a dark room, where it produced an engaging, cinematic image. The reviewer noted generally natural color, crisp detail from HD and 4K sources, and better-than-expected blacks and shadow detail. That makes controlled lighting its clearest strength.

Living-room and HDR performance

In brighter conditions, the reviewer found the image insufficiently forceful, with color, black level, and detail suffering. If you need to watch with daylight or room lights on, this review does not support treating the projector as a reliable ambient-light solution.

The projector supports HDR10 and HLG, but format compatibility is not the same as sophisticated HDR rendering. What Hi-Fi? reported a single HDR preset and no true HDR tone mapping. Buyers prioritizing HDR nuance should weigh that limitation alongside the room-lighting caveat.

Is the HL6810ATV good for gaming?

It has a useful high-refresh-rate option, but there is a resolution trade-off. What Hi-Fi? reported 17 ms input lag at 60 Hz, with lag decreasing at 120 Hz and 240 Hz. The reviewer preferred 1080p at 120 Hz over 4K at 60 Hz in its comparison, describing graphics at 60 Hz as coarser in its testing. That is one review’s experience, not a universal ranking against competing projectors.

The two HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.0b. The review says they do not support 4K above 60 Hz or variable refresh rate (VRR). In practical terms, the projector can suit players who value a higher refresh rate and accept a lower resolution, but it is not a 4K high-refresh or VRR display.

Setup, placement, and connections

Acer’s datasheet lists a 1.3× manual zoom, manual focus, vertical lens shift, automatic vertical keystone correction, manual or automatic horizontal keystone correction, and four-corner adjustment. What Hi-Fi? described setup as straightforward but noted there is no comprehensive automated image-setup system. Lens shift helps with placement, but zoom and focus still require manual adjustment.

Acer gives a throw ratio of 1.15–1.5 and illustrates a 100-inch image at 2.5 m. Its user guide gives a 45–300-inch diagonal range and projection distances of 1.5–7.6 m in a table covering a family of projector variants; those family-wide figures should not be treated as a guaranteed placement range for every exact configuration. Measure your room and confirm the model-specific placement guidance before installing.

Check the regional port configuration and confirm mount fit and current availability before buying accessories. Sound and smart-TV features

Built-in speaker

Acer specifies one 10 W speaker. In use, What Hi-Fi? found it quiet and light on bass, although dialogue remained clear. For films, games, or a more room-filling setup, plan on external audio; the datasheet lists an audio output.

Android TV dongle

Acer says an Android TV dongle is included, while noting that the Android service is not developed or maintained by Acer. What Hi-Fi? described the supplied system as dated and somewhat buggy and suggested using an HDMI streaming stick instead. The review also found missing UK broadcaster catch-up apps; that observation applies to UK services, not necessarily to app availability in other countries. App support and service behavior can vary by region and change over time.

Light-source life and materials

Acer lists light-source life as 20,000 hours in Standard mode and 30,000 hours in ECO mode. These are manufacturer-stated figures tied to the respective operating modes, not a guarantee of how long every unit will perform before service or replacement is needed.

Acer also says the chassis uses 50% post-consumer recycled plastic, while the packaging uses 85% recycled paper and is 100% recyclable. These are Acer’s material and packaging claims; they do not establish a broader lifecycle or comparative environmental impact.

Who should buy the Acer HL6810ATV?

  • Consider it if you can darken the room, want detailed 4K UHD projection, and value the option of 1080p high-refresh gaming.
  • Look elsewhere if your main viewing is in a bright room, you need 4K above 60 Hz or VRR, or you expect strong sound and a polished smart-TV experience without extra equipment.
  • Budget for add-ons if you want fuller sound or prefer another streaming platform. Confirm screen placement and mount compatibility against the exact unit and room before committing to an installation.
