The Acer Nitro XV273U F5 reaches 1,000 Hz only at 1280×720. At its native 2560×1440 resolution, its maximum refresh rate is 540 Hz. That makes the headline mode a real but substantial resolution tradeoff: 720p may appeal to competitive players who prize motion clarity above image detail, while 540 Hz at QHD is the more balanced option for most people with hardware capable of driving it.
What the Acer Nitro XV273U F5 offers
The XV273U F5 is a 27-inch IPS gaming monitor with a native resolution of 2560×1440. Acer specifies a maximum 540 Hz refresh rate at that resolution and a separate Dynamic Frequency and Resolution (DFR) mode that reaches 1,000 Hz at 1280×720. It does not run 1,000 Hz at QHD. Acer’s 2026 announcement lists both modes.
| Mode | Resolution | Maximum refresh rate | Practical tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native QHD | 2560×1440 | 540 Hz | More image detail while retaining an exceptionally high refresh rate |
| DFR | 1280×720 | 1,000 Hz | Higher refresh ceiling, but a softer, lower-resolution image |
The difference matters more than the headline number suggests. Tom’s Hardware describes the 1,000 Hz image as softer because it is 720p. Although 1280×720 scales evenly against QHD’s pixel dimensions, that relationship does not restore the detail lost when the monitor displays fewer pixels. The reviewer’s direct summary is: “The XV273U F5’s 1,000 Hz mode happens at 1280×720 resolution.” Tom’s Hardware review, September 19, 2026.
Does 1,000 Hz at 720p make sense?
It can, if you are an especially competitive player willing to trade sharpness for the monitor’s highest refresh rate and your game and computer can deliver frame rates that make use of it. A faster refresh can reduce the time between displayed frames, but the mode is not automatically a better experience: the lower resolution is visible, and the benefit depends on the game, system performance, and your sensitivity to motion and image detail.
#1 Best Overall
- Quality Visuals: The XV273U 27" IPS monitor with 2560 x 1440 WQHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space, so you have more to look at from edge to edge.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
- Up to 1000Hz Refresh Rate: With a crisp WQHD (2560 x 1440) resolution, a smooth 540Hz refresh rate, and support from AMD FreeSync Premium technology, the Nitro XV273U is sure to deliver flawless gameplay. Gamers can also choose a higher refresh rate option with a HD resolution at 1000Hz based on the demands of the game and the task at hand thanks to DFR technology.
- Goodbye Ghosting: With up to a 0.5ms GTG response time and VRB Pro, the XV273U Gaming Monitor eliminates smearing and ghosting. Fast-moving action and dramatic transitions are rendered smoothly with enhanced motion clarity and sharpness.
- Brilliant Colors: Boasting a DCI-P3 95% color gamut, Delta E<2 and VESA DisplayHDR 600, vibrant colors leap from the screen. Revel in the finest visuals your games can deliver!
For most buyers, 540 Hz at 2560×1440 is the more compelling starting point. It keeps the panel at its native resolution while offering a refresh rate far beyond what most gaming monitors provide. Consider 1,000 Hz as a specialized option to test in fast-paced competitive games, not as a reason to assume the monitor is a 1,000 Hz QHD display.
Image quality, motion handling, and HDR
Tom’s Hardware praised the monitor’s motion handling, contrast, calibrated color, and blur reduction. The reviewer reported contrast above 2,000:1 and around 90% DCI-P3 coverage in testing. Those are review measurements, not Acer’s published guarantees; Acer specifies 95% DCI-P3 and Delta E below 2. Acer’s specifications also include VESA DisplayHDR 600.

The review found the backlight strobing and overdrive effective and color good after calibration. Its HDR results were less impressive: HDR did not provide more contrast than SDR, so the DisplayHDR 600 label should not be taken to mean that HDR necessarily looks more dynamic than standard content on this monitor. Tom’s Hardware’s listed drawbacks also include premium pricing and the lack of USB ports.

Who should buy the XV273U F5?
- Consider it if you want an unusually high-refresh 27-inch QHD display, value the option of a 1,000 Hz competitive mode, and can accept that the highest rate requires 720p.
- Choose another monitor if you need USB connectivity, expect HDR to add noticeably more contrast than SDR, or do not want to pay a premium for refresh rates that your games and system may not fully use.
- For most players, treat 540 Hz at native QHD as the primary mode and regard 1,000 Hz at 720p as an optional specialist setting.
