The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 reviewed by IT Pro was a compelling premium convertible for its 2020 launch price: it paired a sharp, roomy 3:2 touchscreen with capable performance and useful built-in ports. Its reflective display and keyboard feel were notable compromises. The verdict applies to the reviewed CP713-2W configuration, not every Spin 713; check the full model number, condition, asking price, and remaining ChromeOS update support before buying one now.
Is the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 worth buying?
As reviewed, the Spin 713 offered a strong-value ChromeOS package at a comparatively approachable price for a premium convertible. IT Pro’s reviewed CP713-2W configuration had a dual-core Intel Core i3-10110U processor, 8GB of LPDDR4 memory, 128GB eMMC storage, Intel UHD Graphics, and a 13.5-inch touchscreen. The review found it performed well and praised the screen’s vivid image, while noting that its reflective surface could be difficult in bright surroundings and the keyboard could have crisper action. Those are observations from IT Pro’s review, not fresh testing.
The value claim needs a date attached: Acer announced a North American starting price of US$629.99 for the CP713-2W in 2020, with availability planned for July. Acer announced a €699 starting price for EMEA, with June availability. These are historical launch prices, not current offers or reliable guides to used-market value. Acer’s 2020 launch announcement gives the regional launch details; IT Pro’s review covers the reviewed configuration and experience.
What stands out in the Spin 713?
A tall, high-resolution touchscreen
The 13.5-inch touchscreen has a 2256 × 1504 resolution and a 3:2 aspect ratio. Acer called the display VertiView and said the taller format provides 18% more vertical screen space. That shape is useful for reading, documents, and web pages because more content can fit vertically before scrolling. IT Pro described the image as vivid, but also found reflections could make it harder to use in bright surroundings; that is the main display caveat for anyone working near windows or under strong overhead lights.

Acer’s 2020 announcement describes the CP713-2W as a 360-degree convertible, so its screen can fold around for tablet-style use. Acer also listed a 1.37kg weight for the announced configuration; weight can vary by configuration and region. Acer’s launch announcement contains those product claims.
Useful built-in connections
The reviewed configuration included HDMI output, two USB-C 3.1 ports, and one USB-A port. Acer’s CP713-2W specifications also list HDMI, USB-A, two USB-C ports, and USB-C DisplayPort support; Acer’s launch announcement additionally describes a microSD slot and Wi-Fi 6. This selection can reduce the need for a hub when connecting a display or common peripherals, although the ports available should be confirmed against the exact SKU. Acer’s CP713-2W-393J specification page lists its ports and wireless specifications.

Input and everyday performance
The IT Pro review reported good touchpad tracking and solid performance from its reviewed Core i3, 8GB-memory configuration. It also found the keyboard action could feel crisper. This is a practical distinction: the review supports the view that its particular configuration handled everyday Chromebook use well, but it does not establish how every Spin 713 SKU performs or how a used unit will feel today.
Spin 713 specifications vary by SKU
“Spin 713” identifies a product family, not one fixed specification. The IT Pro review configuration and Acer’s separate US store listing demonstrate that CP713-2W machines could ship with different processors and memory capacities.

Before buying, compare the complete model/SKU string and the seller’s actual specifications rather than relying on “Spin 713” or “CP713-2W” alone. Acer’s CP713-2W user manual, revision May 2020, can help identify the relevant family documentation, but it does not make all configurations identical.
How long will the Spin 713 get updates?
Google’s current Auto Update policy lists automatic updates through June 2030 for the CP713-2W and through June 2031 for the CP713-3W. The model generation matters: do not apply the later date to a CP713-2W. Because update schedules and device status can change, check Google’s Auto Update policy and the specific device’s schedule before purchase. Official update support is separate from whether the laptop is in stock, in good condition, or priced well.

What to check before buying one today
- Exact configuration: Verify the full model number and confirm processor, memory, storage, display, and ports with the seller’s listing or device details.
- Remaining updates: Match the model to Google’s current update policy; a CP713-2W and CP713-3W have different listed end dates.
- Screen environment: The review’s reflectivity warning matters if you expect to work in bright rooms or near windows.
- Condition and terms: For used or refurbished stock, weigh physical condition, warranty and return terms alongside configuration and remaining update life.
- Price and availability: Do not treat 2020 launch pricing as today’s fair price. Acer’s cited US store listing for one configuration was out of stock when checked, and current market-wide prices were not established.
Battery life and durability claims
Acer stated up to 10 hours of battery life for the announced CP713-2W, based on Google power LoadTest. That is a manufacturer figure, not an independent battery result from the IT Pro review cited here; Acer says actual runtime varies with configuration, applications, settings, operating conditions, and features. Acer also said the announced model complied with MIL-STD 810G. Treat both as manufacturer claims rather than guarantees for every SKU or for a particular used unit. Acer’s launch announcement states the qualifications.
