Bandai Namco’s new PS5 flight-combat game is Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, released on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2026. The US PlayStation Store lists it as available in Standard and Deluxe editions. Here’s what the game includes, how its online play works, and what to check before buying.
What is Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve?
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is the latest entry in Bandai Namco’s flight-action series. Its single-player Campaign Mode takes place in Strangereal, the franchise’s fictional world. Players fly missions involving air-to-air combat, ground attacks, anti-ship operations and battles against giant fictional weapons. Bandai Namco says the game features more than 30 aircraft across fighter, attack, multi-role and electronic warfare categories. What is the story and how does squadron command work?
The game’s story is set in July 2029. The neighboring Republic of Sotoa invades the Federation of Central Usea and captures its capital, Theve. After the player is rescued by the aging carrier Endurance, they take command of Joker Squadron, choose its composition for missions and issue orders to wingmen. Bandai Namco’s announcement describes one enemy Land Battleship as approximately 450 meters long; that is a scale detail for a fictional vehicle in the game.

Which editions are available, and what do they include?
The US PlayStation Store lists two editions. Prices below are the US listing’s prices when accessed on October 3, 2026; store prices and offers may differ by region or change.

The US PlayStation product listing also shows optional ACE COINS and other add-ons. The June 2 announcement described a pre-order bonus of a PS5-ported version of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War and playable F-14A Tomcat aircraft. That announcement documents an earlier offer, not a guarantee that it remains available; check the live store in your region. Bandai Namco also notes that Deluxe content and offers can vary by country and may be digital-only.
The official PlayStation listings establish digital editions, but do not confirm boxed PS5 availability in a particular market. The US edition prices above should not be applied to other regions.

Can you play solo or online?
The PlayStation listing describes one-player play as well as online modes, including co-op and cross-platform play, with up to eight online players. Online play is optional, but the listing says a PlayStation Plus subscription is required to play online. It also describes the series’ first online lobby as a social air base. These are publisher and platform descriptions, not hands-on performance findings.

PlayStation’s US listing describes dynamic, multi-layered clouds, arcade-style handling and first-person scenes between cockpit action and the pilot’s story. It confirms DualSense vibration and trigger effects. That is feature support, not a requirement to buy an additional controller. The listing also includes Remote Play.

Which platforms are confirmed?
The official announcement and product page cited here confirm the PS5 release. PlayStation LifeStyle’s October 2, 2026 report says the game is also launching on Xbox Series X|S and PC, but those platforms are not independently established by the official PlayStation listing.
