ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE launched worldwide on 2 October 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The flight-shooting game is the first mainline entry in seven years, according to publisher Bandai Namco. Here’s what it offers, how its campaign is set up, and what to know about its multiplayer and editions.
What is ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE?
Developed by Bandai Namco Aces Inc., WINGS OF THEVE is a new entry in the Ace Combat flight-shooting series. Bandai Namco says it uses Unreal Engine 5 alongside proprietary technology for its visuals and aerial combat. The publisher describes the game as especially immersive and large in scale; those are promotional claims, not independently established comparisons with earlier entries.

The worldwide launch date was 2 October 2026. Players who digitally preordered the Deluxe Edition could begin playing during early access from 29 September. The game is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam for PC.

The story takes place in Strangereal, the series’ fictional setting. In the game’s chronology, the Republic of Sotoa invades the Federation of Central Usea (FCU) in July 2029, occupying the country and leaving its military shattered.

The player joins Joker Flight and is called “Wings of Theve,” after the FCU capital. The official story description says the legendary ace is a morale-building fiction: “But that legend was a lie; it was a story made to keep morale alive.”
How the missions work
Bandai Namco describes a campaign featuring air-to-air dogfights, attacks on ground and naval targets, and battles against enormous fictional weapons. Players can choose aircraft and squadron composition, issue commands to wingmen, and make decisions that the publisher says shape the conflict.

The PlayStation Blog lists more than 30 aircraft across fighter, attack, multi-role and electronic-warfare roles. One of the campaign’s fictional set pieces is a Land Battleship described in that post as approximately 450 metres long.
What multiplayer features are included?
Bandai Namco describes cross-platform multiplayer with cooperative and competitive activities, an online rewards system, and a social Air Base hub. The publisher says the hub can accommodate up to 100 players. That figure refers to the Air Base hub, not to a single competitive match.

The Premium Ace Pass is a separate offering or is included through the Deluxe Edition’s Premium Ace Pass Plus Voucher. Bandai Namco lists seasonal rewards including aircraft skins, avatar costumes and the playable ADFX-02 MORGAN – PIXY aircraft. Premium Ace Pass Plus holders receive an immediate 30-level boost. Pass contents and terms can change, so check the current listing for the relevant platform and region.
Which edition or product should you consider?
The June 2026 announcement described Standard and Deluxe Editions, preorder bonuses and a collector bundle. Its offer terms were announcement-era details, so they should not be treated as a guarantee of current availability.

The June announcement also said that all preorders included a digital copy of ACE COMBAT ZERO: THE BELKAN WAR at launch. Because this was an announcement-era offer, confirm regional terms and current availability before relying on it. The cited sources do not establish current prices, physical-disc availability for consoles, or stock for the Joker Flight Pack. An Amazon search for “ACE COMBAT 8 Joker Flight Pack” may help locate listings, but any marketplace listing and seller should be checked independently.
