There is no evidence-backed universal aircraft tier list for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve yet. Bandai Namco’s official pages describe aircraft by role and advise choosing your aircraft and special weapons for each mission, but they do not publish comparative performance figures. For now, choose by objective: use fighters for dogfights, attackers for ground support, and consider multirole or electronic-warfare aircraft when their capabilities suit the mission. This guide reflects the officially described roster as of October 4, 2026—not measured rankings.
Best aircraft by mission type
The right aircraft depends on what the mission asks you to do. Bandai Namco describes missions involving dogfights, air support for ground troops, and air-to-sea sorties against naval threats, and recommends matching your craft and special weapons to each mission. The official overview does not provide a comparative aircraft ranking or numerical performance stats.
| Mission objective | Starting choice | What to prioritize |
|---|---|---|
| Dogfights | Fighter | Choose a fighter and special weapon that fit the air-to-air objective. The official material does not establish which fighter performs best. |
| Ground support | Attacker | Prioritize an aircraft and weapon loadout suited to ground targets. The A-10C Thunderbolt II is officially described as an attacker designed for close air support. |
| Naval strikes | Aircraft and special weapon matched to the sortie | Review the mission objective and available weapon fit. Official sources do not name a best aircraft for naval strikes. |
| Mixed objectives | Multirole aircraft | Consider flexibility across target types, but verify that the aircraft’s available weapons suit the mission. |
| Electronic-warfare needs | Electronic-warfare aircraft | Consider this category when its role fits the objective; the official roster lists the EA-6B Prowler in this category but does not quantify its impact. |
What the official aircraft roles tell you
Fighters
Fighters are one of the official aircraft categories. They are the role-based starting point for a mission focused on air combat, but the official aircraft information does not compare individual fighters or identify a top pick.

The A-10C Thunderbolt II is described by Bandai Namco as a durable attacker intended for close air support, with heavy weaponry, low-speed agility, and air-to-ground weapons. That description supports it as a role-fit option for ground support; it is not evidence that it is the strongest aircraft overall.

Multirole aircraft
Multirole aircraft are an official category and can be a sensible place to start when a mission mixes objectives. Their presence does not establish that any particular aircraft is better than a specialized fighter or attacker. Check the mission’s targets and the available special weapons before choosing.
Electronic-warfare aircraft
The official roster lists the EA-6B Prowler as an electronic-warfare aircraft. The available official descriptions do not provide a quantified advantage or a direct comparison with other aircraft, so treat the category as a mission-fit option rather than a universal ranking.

How to choose an aircraft and loadout
- Read the mission objective. Identify whether the main task is air-to-air combat, ground support, a naval strike, or a combination.
- Choose a role that matches the task. Start with a fighter for dogfights, an attacker for ground support, or a multirole or electronic-warfare aircraft when its role fits the mission.
- Match the special weapon to the targets. Bandai Namco explicitly recommends optimizing the craft and selecting special weapons for each mission; do not assume one loadout is best everywhere.
- Reassess for the mode you are playing. The official FAQ says the Online aircraft roster matches Campaign Mode, but Online is a separate experience with its own progression and aircraft acquisition.
Why a definitive tier list is not established
A meaningful S/A/B ranking requires comparable evidence: aircraft tested under the same conditions against the same objectives, with configurations and results disclosed. The official aircraft page describes aircraft and roles but publishes no comparative performance figures; the game overview supports mission-specific selection, not a universal ordering. No reliable numerical basis is established here for ranking aircraft by speed, damage, cost, win rate, or popularity.
The official aircraft page also says “Stay Tuned for More Aircraft,” so its roster may change. Any future tier list should identify its roster snapshot and disclose the game version, mode, mission, difficulty, aircraft configuration, weapon, and evaluation criteria. Without that testing, calling one aircraft “S-tier” would imply evidence the official material does not provide.
