You cannot change or correct the name on your Aadhaar through UIDAI’s online update service. For any name correction or change, UIDAI directs you to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) or other enrolment centre. The online service is limited to address and document updates.
What each route lets you do

UIDAI states, “Through this online portal, you can perform only Address and Document update.” Its FAQ directs people seeking even minor name corrections to the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. See UIDAI’s myAadhaar online update FAQ.
How to get a name change or correction
- Check which supporting document applies. Review UIDAI’s Aadhaar Online Services page and its current list of acceptable documents. The evidence must fit the reason and nature of the name change; do not assume that one document works for every case.
- Find a suitable centre and appointment. Use UIDAI’s Aadhaar Seva Kendra and charges page to check centre information and appointment options. Confirm that the selected centre offers the service before you travel.
- Visit with your Aadhaar details and supporting evidence. Ask the centre to submit the name update. Keep the acknowledgement or reference number provided for the request.
- Track the request and wait for verification. UIDAI says submissions are subject to verification and validation. Submitting information does not guarantee that Aadhaar data will be changed; use the acknowledgement to check the request’s status.
Documents and the two-update limit
UIDAI’s standard limit is two name updates in a lifetime. If you have already used both, another update is not a routine third correction: UIDAI describes a special exception request that requires justification and verification.

The required documents depend on the circumstances. Follow the current instructions on UIDAI’s name update limit and exception guidance. If an over-limit request is rejected, UIDAI’s guidance describes contacting the authority with the latest enrolment acknowledgement and supporting evidence. UIDAI decides whether to allow the exception.

Fee and timing
As listed on UIDAI’s centre service information accessed on 7 October 2026, a separate demographic update costs ₹75; demographic updates completed at the same time as a biometric update are free. Fees can change, so check the live UIDAI centre charge information before your visit.
UIDAI’s reviewed guidance does not establish a comparative processing time or success rate for name updates, so there is no basis to say one route is faster or more successful. In any case, the online route does not accept name changes.
