In the cited phone reviews, Apple’s A18 in the iPhone 16 beats Google’s Tensor G5 in the Pixel 10 on both Geekbench 6 CPU scores and the 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited graphics test. Google’s case for Tensor G5 instead centers on on-device AI and Pixel features. These are results for two specific phones, not a universal ranking of the chips in every workload.

Which phones and chips are being compared?

This comparison is the A18-powered iPhone 16 versus the Tensor G5-powered Pixel 10. It does not substitute the A18 Pro or results from a different Pixel model. The benchmark numbers below are reported review results from complete phones, so they reflect each tested device and its software—not an isolated, controlled measurement of either chip.

How do the benchmark results compare?

Geekbench 6 CPU results

Tom’s Guide reported the following Geekbench 6 scores in its reviews:

Tested phone Chip Single-core Multi-core
iPhone 16 Apple A18 3,301 8,033
Pixel 10 Google Tensor G5 2,345 6,581

In those results, the iPhone 16 leads in both single-core and multi-core performance. Geekbench scores can differ between reviews, devices, and software versions; they are not guaranteed scores for every A18 or Tensor G5 phone.

3DMark graphics result

In Tom’s Guide’s 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited test, the iPhone 16 averaged 98.23 frames per second, compared with 80.58 fps for the Pixel 10. This is a result from that test, not a promise of a fixed frame rate in a particular game. Game performance can depend on the game, settings, software, and how long a workload runs.

Why another review can show different scores

Beebom reports different Geekbench 6 results and also includes AnTuTu scores. Its stated test devices are the iPhone 16 and Pixel 10 Pro, rather than the Pixel 10 used for Tom’s Guide’s comparison:

What does Google say Tensor G5 is designed to do?

Google presents Tensor G5 as a platform for on-device AI as well as performance and Pixel-specific capabilities. In its 2025 figures, Google says the Tensor G5 TPU is up to 60% more powerful than Tensor G4, and its CPU is 34% faster on average than Tensor G4 across the Pixel 10 series. Google says the CPU comparison is based on internal testing with pre-production devices.

Google also says the latest Gemini Nano runs 2.6 times faster and uses 2 times more efficiently for the cited Pixel Screenshots and Recorder use cases compared with Tensor G4. These are Google’s own comparisons with the previous Tensor generation, not independent benchmark results against A18. Feature availability can also depend on country, language, or eligibility.

Google describes Tensor G5 as built on a 3 nm process. That specification and the performance figures explain Google’s framing of the chip, but they do not establish that Tensor G5 outperforms A18 in a direct test. Google Group Product Manager Jesse Seed wrote in the company’s August 20, 2025 announcement, “Our fifth-generation Google Tensor chip brings the latest in AI to the Pixel 10 series.”

What can’t these results tell you?

The cited results support a straightforward conclusion about the tested phones and selected benchmarks: iPhone 16 is ahead in Geekbench 6 and 3DMark Wild Life Unlimited. They do not establish which phone lasts longer under load, draws less power, performs better in every app, or handles every AI task more effectively. The available figures are not a same-method battery or sustained-load comparison, so they cannot settle those questions.

Nor do the benchmark tables provide a complete specification comparison. A secondary-source specification table describes CPU core counts and GPU details, but those claims are not needed to interpret the cited results and are not presented here as authoritative specifications. The strongest supported comparison is the device-level benchmark evidence alongside Google’s clearly labeled Tensor G4-relative AI and performance claims.

Which chip is the better fit?

  • Choose based on the benchmark evidence: The iPhone 16’s A18 is the stronger performer in the cited CPU and graphics tests.
  • Consider the Pixel’s stated strengths: Tensor G5 is positioned around on-device AI and Pixel-specific features, with Google’s published improvements measured against Tensor G4.
  • For a specific app, game, or AI feature: Check performance and availability for that exact use case; these selected scores do not predict every task.
