The available benchmarks do not establish a universal winner between Apple’s A18 and Qualcomm’s 2024 Snapdragon 8 Elite. In Geekbench 6 single-core, the chart entry for the iPhone 16 (A18) is higher than the Samsung Galaxy S25 (Snapdragon 8 Elite); NanoReview’s AnTuTu 11 comparison points the other way, but warns that iOS and Android scores are not directly comparable. Those results describe phones as well as chips, so they are clues—not a controlled silicon-only verdict.

What is being compared?

This comparison is between the standard Apple A18 and the first-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite introduced in 2024. It does not cover the A18 Pro or later Snapdragon 8 Elite generations. The clearest surfaced device pair is the iPhone 16 and Samsung Galaxy S25, but they are different phones running different operating systems. Their benchmark results also reflect each phone’s cooling, firmware, power limits, and software—not just its processor.

The available source set does not provide equivalent, official specification sheets for these exact chip generations. Qualcomm’s surfaced page is for the later Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, so its specifications cannot be applied to the 2024 chip. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 page illustrates the naming-generation distinction; it is not a specification source for the older processor.

How do the available benchmark results compare?

Geekbench 6 single-core

Primate Labs’ living Geekbench Mobile Benchmarks chart, accessed in 2026, lists the iPhone 16 with A18 at 2,798 and the Samsung Galaxy S25 with Snapdragon 8 Elite at 2,442 in Geekbench 6 single-core. That chart snapshot favors the listed iPhone 16 entry in this test. It does not show that every A18 phone beats every Snapdragon 8 Elite phone, or isolate how much of the result comes from the chip rather than the handset and software.

AnTuTu 11 aggregate

NanoReview’s comparison page, marked 2026-07-18, reports AnTuTu 11 totals of 3,126,402 for Snapdragon 8 Elite and 1,972,476 for A18. The page explicitly cautions that Android and iOS AnTuTu results are not directly comparable. AnTuTu also combines multiple categories, so these totals do not establish a CPU-only advantage or a reliable cross-platform performance margin.

Test Listed result What it supports
Geekbench 6 single-core iPhone 16 (A18): 2,798; Galaxy S25 (Snapdragon 8 Elite): 2,442 The iPhone 16 chart entry is higher in this test; the result is device-level, not a controlled chip-only comparison.
AnTuTu 11 aggregate Snapdragon 8 Elite: 3,126,402; A18: 1,972,476 NanoReview reports higher Snapdragon scoring, but warns that iOS and Android results are not directly comparable.

Do not compare a Geekbench number directly with an AnTuTu total: the apps use different scoring systems and test different combinations of workloads. A higher result in one benchmark is not a general-purpose measure of which phone will feel faster.

What can’t these figures tell you?

No surfaced result establishes a controlled test of the A18 and first-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite in identical hardware and software conditions. Even tests using the named retail phones include differences in cooling, battery and power limits, firmware, display resolution, and performance policy. A separate Android Authority video published on 2024-10-26 tested a Qualcomm reference device and warned that later retail-product scores could differ; treat it as early reference-device evidence rather than a forecast for every Snapdragon phone. Android Authority’s reference-device benchmark video also compares the Snapdragon 8 Elite with the A18 Pro, not the standard A18 used here.

For a meaningful head-to-head, a benchmark report should identify the exact phone and chip, benchmark version and test mode, software version, temperature and power conditions when available, and whether a figure is one run or an average. The available chart entries do not amount to a matched test under identical conditions.

Which specifications and performance areas are established?

The available evidence supports a narrow benchmark comparison, not a complete specification table. It does not establish generation-matched values for clock rates, process nodes, core layouts, GPU counts, memory bandwidth, neural-processing throughput, modem peak speeds, or fabrication claims. Reporting precise values for those fields without a direct source for each exact generation would imply certainty the available sources do not provide.

Performance also depends on the workload. CPU single-core, CPU multi-core, graphics and gaming, sustained performance under heat, power efficiency, and on-device AI are distinct questions. The cited evidence does not establish a controlled winner for sustained performance, gaming, efficiency, or AI. A short benchmark score should not be used as a substitute for those results.

Which should guide a phone decision?

Use the benchmark evidence as a starting point, then compare the actual phones available to you. The iPhone 16 and Galaxy S25 are useful examples of devices carrying these chips, but a processor score alone does not determine which is the better purchase. Consider the applications and games you use, how long you run demanding workloads, battery life, software ecosystem, and the specific phone’s features. For gaming or other sustained heavy work, device-level tests under comparable conditions matter more than a brief peak score.
