The report identifies a 13-inch M5 MacBook Air and a $550 asking price, but it does not establish the shop’s identity, the exact configuration, the computer’s condition, or whether anyone bought it. The Reddit thread also includes comments about the Mac being associated with another person’s account and discussion about whether it had been removed. Why an account lock matters more than the asking price
Apple says Activation Lock can stop another person from turning off Find My, erasing a Mac, or reactivating and using it without the prior Apple Account password or device passcode. A Mac that cannot be cleared and activated by the buyer may not be usable as expected. Do not rely on assurances that the restriction can be bypassed later, and do not pay on the assumption that a setup or Hello screen proves every account or management restriction is gone. What to require before paying
Ask the shop to demonstrate the complete process while the Mac is connected to the internet. - Have the shop connect the Mac to Wi-Fi or another working internet connection.
- Ask the shop to remove the Mac from the previous Apple Account and turn off Find My, using the required account credentials or device passcode.
- Have the shop erase the Mac.
- Proceed through setup together far enough to confirm the Mac activates without asking for the previous owner’s credentials.
- Pay only after the Mac completes that check. If the shop cannot complete it, walk away rather than assume the lock can be resolved later.
A seller’s claim that the device is “reset,” or a screen that appears ready for setup, is not a substitute for completing activation. The available sources do not establish whether this pawn-shop unit is currently locked; the in-person demonstration is what matters to a prospective buyer.
Inspect the specific Mac, not just its model name
The listing does not verify the computer’s exact chip, screen size beyond the report’s 13-inch description, memory, storage, battery condition, physical condition, repair history, warranty coverage, or management enrollment. Confirm these details on the device and inspect it before deciding what it is worth.

The report says that offer expired. It is historical context, not a current price or an apples-to-apples valuation of this unidentified 13-inch unit.
For a meaningful comparison, match screen size, memory, storage, condition, account and management status, warranty or service coverage, and return protection. Without those details, the reported $550 price cannot be weighed reliably against a new or used alternative.
