The reMarkable Paper Pro is a strong fit if you want a paper-like screen for handwriting and document markup without the pull of a browser or social apps. Its 11.8-inch color E Ink display, adjustable reading light and deliberately limited software make it a focused digital-paper device—not a general-purpose tablet. Whether it suits your productivity depends on how much you rely on apps, multitasking and cloud access.
What makes the Paper Pro feel different from a regular tablet?
reMarkable describes the Paper Pro as a device for focused thinking. It runs a custom Linux-based digital-paper operating system; the company says it has no browser or social media. That removes some common sources of distraction, but also rules out the open-ended app experience people expect from an iPad or Android tablet.

The screen is an 11.8-inch Canvas Color display based on E Ink Gallery 3. reMarkable lists its resolution as 2160 × 1620 at 229 ppi, with palm rejection and an adjustable reading light. Color is useful for highlighting, diagrams and markup, though this is still an E Ink display rather than a conventional tablet screen. The listed hardware also includes 64 GB of storage, 2 GB of RAM, a 5,030 mAh battery and a device weight of approximately 525 g. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.

Does it fit your productivity workflow?
Writing and annotating documents
The Paper Pro supports PDF and EPUB imports, and its official specifications list PDF, PNG and SVG exports. That makes it a plausible choice for handwritten notes, reading and marking up documents. The color display can help distinguish highlights or diagram elements, while the larger canvas gives more room than a compact e-reader.
Moving work between devices
reMarkable lists companion apps for macOS, Windows, iOS and Android, as well as Chrome and Microsoft Office extensions. These connections can help bridge handwritten work and a computer-based workflow, but they do not turn the tablet into a full desktop or app platform. If your process depends on a particular third-party app running on the tablet itself, verify that it is supported before choosing this device.

Cloud access and Connect
Connect affects what happens beyond the tablet. According to reMarkable’s current product page, users without an active subscription retain in the cloud only files used and synced during the previous 50 days, and lose note-taking access in mobile and desktop apps along with other listed features. The page also describes a 50-day trial when pairing for users without an active subscription. Check the current terms for your region before relying on a specific cloud or companion-app workflow.

When a different paper-like tablet makes more sense
These devices make different trade-offs. The Paper Pro prioritizes a constrained digital-paper experience; BOOX models offer more tablet-like flexibility, while Kindle Scribe is oriented around Amazon’s reading ecosystem. Vendor descriptions establish their listed features, not a tested head-to-head ranking.

Check the box contents and accessory fit
reMarkable’s Paper Pro product page lists a Marker, a USB-C cable and six replacement Marker tips in the box. The Paper Pro Marker is not compatible with reMarkable 2, so check the exact model before buying replacement accessories. - Choose the Paper Pro if your core tasks are handwriting, reading and marking up PDFs or EPUBs, and you want a device with few built-in distractions.
- Look at BOOX if split-screen work, Android apps or broader on-device flexibility matters more than a tightly limited interface. Check which Note Air model and regional listing you are evaluating.
- Look at Kindle Scribe if Kindle-centered reading is the priority and writing is an additional use.
- Keep a general-purpose tablet in the mix if your work requires a wide range of apps, browser-based tools or frequent multitasking. A digital-paper device can complement that tablet rather than replace it.
Manufacturer specifications and product descriptions do not establish comparative battery life, handwriting latency, eye-health outcomes or which device will feel best to a particular person. Treat claims such as Amazon’s stated writing-speed improvement as the company’s claim, not an independent test result.
