Apple may announce a new Apple TV 4K at its reported October 13, 2026 “Welcome Home” event, but Apple has not confirmed that the device is on the agenda. If you’re about to buy one, waiting a few days could clarify your options. If you already own an Apple TV 4K, there’s no reason to assume it is obsolete: Apple lists both the second- and third-generation models as compatible with tvOS 27.
Is Apple announcing a new Apple TV 4K next week?
Several outlets expect an Apple TV refresh at the October 13 event, which they report is called “Welcome Home.” That expectation is not an announcement from Apple. The Apple sources reviewed do not confirm an Apple TV on the event agenda, a successor’s release date, its specifications, or its price.
Coverage from Tom’s Guide and What Hi-Fi? anticipates an update. Treat that as a reason to watch the event, not proof that a new box will be revealed.

For a prospective buyer, the practical issue is whether to choose the current, confirmed model or pause briefly for clarity. A refresh could change the available hardware and features, but there is no confirmed successor to compare against yet.

- 4K High Dynamic Range (Dolby Vision and HDR10) for stunning picture quality
- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
For Apple, a TV box could matter beyond video playback: it sits in the living room alongside Apple’s software, services and connected-home products. Rumors about a faster chip, wireless upgrades and Siri-related capabilities make that role part of the speculation. None of those rumored features is confirmed, and the reports do not agree on what chip a successor might use.
Should you buy an Apple TV 4K now or wait?
Wait a few days if you’re about to purchase
If you can comfortably delay, waiting until after the reported event is a sensible way to avoid making a decision just before a possible announcement. An event reveal—or the absence of one—may make the choice clearer. Do not assume that a new model will be available immediately, cost a particular amount, or include any specific rumored feature.

Buy the current model if its confirmed capabilities meet your needs
Apple’s current confirmed model is the third-generation Apple TV 4K, introduced in 2022. It has an A15 Bionic chip and comes in a 64GB Wi-Fi configuration or a 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet configuration. Both list Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0; the Ethernet configuration also includes Thread. Apple says an HDMI cable is required and sold separately. See Apple’s technical specifications for the product details.
The sources reviewed do not establish a current price for your market, so check Apple or a local retailer before buying. Without confirmed successor pricing or specifications, there is no sound basis for a price-versus-performance comparison.

What is rumored about the next model—and what is not known?
Reports point to possible hardware and Siri changes, but they are not consistent enough to treat as a specification sheet.
- Chip: MacRumors has discussed A17 Pro or newer possibilities, 9to5Mac describes A17 Pro as expected, and What Hi-Fi? has mentioned A19 or A19 Pro. Apple has confirmed none of these claims.
- Wireless and connected-home features: MacRumors has discussed Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread; 9to5Mac has mentioned Apple’s N1 wireless chip. These remain unconfirmed reports, not guaranteed features.
- Siri, AI and memory: Rumor coverage has raised Siri-related capabilities, AI features and more RAM, but Apple has not confirmed what a new Apple TV would support or which models, if any, would be eligible.
- Remote: Tom’s Guide and MacRumors have raised the possibility of a revised remote. There is no confirmed design or feature list.
A built-in camera and gesture control should not be counted on. MacRumors says those ideas were discussed in 2024 but reports no indication Apple is moving forward with them for this model.

Will your current Apple TV 4K still get updates?
Yes, if it is a second- or third-generation Apple TV 4K: Apple lists both as compatible with tvOS 27. Earlier Apple TV models are no longer supported by that software. Feature availability can vary by region and hardware. Apple’s tvOS support information provides the compatibility details.

That support status is important when weighing an upgrade. A new model could offer hardware that an older box lacks, but the possibility of a refresh does not by itself make a supported Apple TV 4K unusable.
Which changes are already part of tvOS, not a new box?
Apple’s June 9, 2025 announcement described tvOS 26 changes including a redesigned Apple TV app, profile display options, FaceTime improvements, Apple Music Sing changes and the ability to designate an AirPlay speaker. Apple said those software features would arrive as a free update that fall. They are tvOS features—not evidence of new 2026 hardware. See Apple’s tvOS 26 announcement.
What to check if Apple reveals a successor
Base an upgrade decision on Apple’s confirmed product page and the price in your region, not on pre-event predictions. The details most likely to affect the choice are:
