The 2024, 11th-generation base Kindle was listed for $104, down from a $150 list price, in WIRED’s October 6, 2026 Prime Big Deal Days guide. That makes it a meaningful sale, but not proof of an all-time low: WIRED reported the Kindle’s list price had risen by $40 in August 2026. Check the live listing for the current price, stock, and configuration before buying.
What the $104 deal is—and isn’t
The offer WIRED reported is for the 2024 11th-generation base Kindle, not the newer 2026 Kindle. In its October 6, 2026 Prime Big Deal Days guide, WIRED listed the older model at $104 against a $150 list price and described it as the least expensive Kindle in its roundup.
The $150 comparison needs context. WIRED said the base Kindle’s listed price rose by $40 in August 2026, so $104 is a discount from that recently raised price—not evidence that this is the lowest price the device has ever reached. The promotion is time-sensitive, and the guide does not establish its current end date.
What you get with the base Kindle
The 2024 base Kindle has a 6-inch screen and does not offer adjustable warm light. If reading at night or changing the display’s color tone matters to you, compare it with the Paperwhite before choosing. WIRED’s reported model and deal comparisons are dated figures, not guarantees of current prices or availability.

Prices and features in this comparison are reported in WIRED’s October 6, 2026 guide. The guide also reported that newer 2026 versions of the Kindle, Paperwhite, and Colorsoft had recently been announced, but only the new base Kindle was available at the time. It identified the older 2024 Kindle as the $104 sale option.
Who should buy it?
- Choose the $104 base Kindle if you want a straightforward e-reader, are comfortable with a 6-inch screen, and do not need adjustable warm light.
- Compare the Paperwhite if the larger 7-inch screen or warm-light setting matters enough to justify checking its current price.
- Consider the Signature edition if auto-adjusting front light or wireless charging is a priority; confirm its live price rather than relying on the guide’s dated $200 list price.
