A community-maintained Google document is collecting game decompilation and recompilation projects that its curator classifies as human-made. It may help readers discover projects, but it is not an official registry or an independent check of how each project was made.

What the list is—and what it is not

Retro Dodo reported on October 2, 2026, that an online user known as Funky90sLion had assembled a Google document of game projects described as human-made. The curator says the list will be updated and welcomes corrections. The directory is therefore best treated as a community resource whose contents and classifications can change, not as an official industry designation or a certification system. Retro Dodo’s October 2, 2026 report says the curator planned to contact creators, but does not establish that every entry was confirmed by its creators or audited.

How the directory groups projects

The report describes four categories. These labels distinguish the kind of work or its reported stage; they do not by themselves verify a project’s tools, authorship, supported platforms, or current development status.

  • Decomp ports: ports built from decompilations.
  • Decompilations: projects focused on decompiling a game.
  • Recomp ports: ports made through recompilation.
  • Works in progress: projects not yet presented as complete.

Examples named in the report include SM64-related ports, Zelda3, OpenGOAL, Perfect Dark, Sonic-related projects, and several recomp ports. Those are examples reported by the article, not a complete or independently validated inventory. The report does not provide a per-entry verification record covering creator confirmation, development status, or supported game and platform.

Why the curator says it was created

The curator’s stated aim is to help readers find projects they regard as human-led amid untested AI-assisted game ports. In a post attributed to FunkyLion ‘Yuyake’ on October 1, 2026, the curator wrote: “Getting tired of untested vibecoded ports that are just buggy and because no experienced coders are around, they can’t fix it? Never fear, as I have listed decomps and recomps done by actual people and it will continue expanding! If you know any, lemme know!”

The curator also describes classic games brought to PC with mods, uncapped frame rates, and multiplayer features, while expressing concern that AI-assisted ports may be untested and buggy. That is the curator’s rationale, not a measured comparison: the report provides no failure-rate figures or independent evidence that AI-assisted projects are more likely to be buggy.

How to use the list responsibly

  1. Check the project itself. Use the directory as a discovery point, then consult the project’s own page or repository for its supported game and platform, development status, and technical details.
  2. Read the category as a label, not proof. A listing under “decomp port,” “decompilation,” or “recomp port” describes the curator’s grouping; it does not independently establish how the work was produced.
  3. Look for creator confirmation. The Retro Dodo report describes a planned effort to contact creators, but does not show confirmation for every entry. Treat confirmation as unknown where the project or curator does not state it.
  4. Report corrections to the curator. The list is described as an evolving directory that welcomes reports, so readers can flag missing or misclassified projects.

What the report does not establish

  • It gives no attributable total for the number of entries and no statistic on AI-generated port failure rates or the growth of such projects.
  • It does not independently validate every named project’s current status or development process.
  • It does not demonstrate that all listed projects have been confirmed by their creators.

The Retro Dodo report identifies the directory as a Google document, but the document’s live URL and contents after the article’s update are not independently established here. Readers should not treat the reported examples as a current, exhaustive catalog.
