If your phone won’t connect to Just Dance, first check that you’re using the controller app for your game edition and that you’re pairing in the right mode. Then reopen the app and game, allow any permissions the mode needs, install available updates, and check the network. The exact pairing steps vary by edition, and current official instructions do not establish one universal fix for QR-code or code-entry failures.
First, identify your game edition and controller mode
Ubisoft’s Version 26.0.0 patch notes, dated October 6, 2025, refer to the mobile companion app as Just Dance Controller. The app’s name alone does not mean it supports every release: Apple’s listing for the legacy Just Dance 2016–22 Controller app says it requires a console copy of a game from Just Dance 2016 through Just Dance 2022. Check the app listing and your game edition before troubleshooting a connection. Ubisoft’s Version 26.0.0 patch notes and the Apple listing for the legacy app describe these details.
Hand-held phone controller
In this mode, you hold the phone and use it as a controller. Follow the pairing method shown by your game, such as its displayed code or QR prompt; there is no verified current universal sequence for every edition and platform.
Camera Controller Mode
This mode uses the phone camera to track full-body movement, rather than having you hold the phone as a motion controller. Ubisoft describes Camera Controller Mode as solo-only, with compatible choreographies from Just Dance 2025 and 2026; additional songs may be available through Just Dance+. Try these connection checks in order
- Return to the game’s pairing screen. Close and reopen the controller app, go back to the game’s controller-pairing screen, and try again using the method displayed there. This is a general reset of the attempt, not an edition-independent Ubisoft procedure.
- Allow camera access if you’re using Camera Controller Mode. Check your phone’s app permissions and make sure camera access is allowed for Just Dance Controller, then retry calibration. Ubisoft’s 2025 patch notes document a camera-calibration issue when a player denied camera permission, but that historical fix does not establish the cause of every current failure. Read the patch notes.
- Install available game and app updates. Ubisoft’s Version 26.0.0 notes also describe a fix for a pause-menu screen appearing after reconnecting during camera-controller scoring. Update both components if an update is offered, then restart the pairing attempt. The fix applies to that documented reconnect issue, not necessarily to a different error.
- Check your edition’s internet requirements. Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2024 FAQ says PS5 and Xbox Series X|S require internet to set up that edition and use its dedicated controller app. Its Switch guidance addresses online group play and the full catalogue, and says downloaded songs can be played offline subject to limits. These are Just Dance 2024-specific details, so do not assume they describe every edition. See Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2024 internet requirements.
- Check that the phone and console use the same Wi-Fi network. An older Just Dance 2020-era connectivity guide says the app communicates with the console over Wi-Fi and recommends connecting both to the same network. Use this as a basic local-network check, not as a guaranteed fix or current rule for every release. Read the older connectivity guide.
If a QR code or pairing code still fails
The available official guidance does not define current QR-code or manual-code error meanings, or provide a complete repair procedure for every console, iOS or Android version. Don’t assume a code is wrong because of a specific router setting or error-code cause without edition-specific guidance. Confirm you are using the compatible app, retry from the game’s pairing screen, and check updates and any relevant permissions first.
