Nintendo’s published U.S. Genesis lineup does not list Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, NBA Jam Tournament Edition, Mortal Kombat II, or the seven other games below. This is a curated shortlist—not an objective ranking—chosen to show the library’s range across platformers, sports, fighting, racing, and action. Nintendo says its classics libraries will keep growing, but it has not announced a schedule or confirmed any of these titles.
Which Sega Genesis games are missing from Nintendo Switch Online?
The titles below are absent from Nintendo’s published U.S. SEGA Genesis – Nintendo Switch Online lineup. “Missing” here means not on that published list; it does not establish availability in every region or rule out a future addition. The selection is organized around genre variety, recognizable series and licensed properties, and distinctive Genesis-era experiences—not sales figures, review scores, or a consensus ranking.
| Game | What it would add to the collection |
|---|---|
| Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles | A major Sonic-era platforming gap in the published lineup. |
| NBA Jam Tournament Edition | Arcade-style basketball and a sports option among a list otherwise weighted toward action and platforming. |
| Mortal Kombat II | A fighting-game choice and another side of the system’s licensed-era catalog. |
| Disney’s Aladdin | A recognizable licensed platformer; this entry refers to the Genesis version, not versions released for other platforms. |
| Road Rash II | Motorcycle combat racing, a genre not represented by much of the collection. |
| X-Men 2: Clone Wars | Comic-book action that broadens the collection’s licensed-game selection. |
| The Lion King | Another recognizable licensed platformer; the omission concerns the Genesis version. |
| Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster’s Hidden Treasure | A platformer from a distinct licensed franchise. |
| Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament | Compact-scale racing and a different kind of multiplayer option. |
| General Chaos | A distinctive strategy/action pick that would broaden the genre mix. |
Why these omissions stand out
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles: the conspicuous platforming gap
Nintendo’s lineup includes other major Genesis-era games, including Ristar, Dynamite Headdy, and Streets of Rage 2, but does not list Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. Its absence is especially noticeable for players looking for another cornerstone Sonic-era platforming experience. The catalog listing does not explain why the game is absent, so no reason should be inferred from the omission.
Sports, fighting, and racing variety
NBA Jam Tournament Edition would bring arcade-style basketball to a collection that has more visible representation from action and platforming. Mortal Kombat II would give fighting-game fans a distinct option. For racing, Road Rash II offers motorcycle combat, while Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament would add compact-scale competition. These are different ways to expand the collection rather than substitutes for one another.

Licensed platformers and action games
Disney’s Aladdin, The Lion King, and Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster’s Hidden Treasure would add recognizable licensed platformers. The Genesis releases are the games being discussed; versions of a licensed game on other systems are not interchangeable catalog entries. X-Men 2: Clone Wars would add comic-book action, while General Chaos would contribute a less conventional strategy/action choice.
What Nintendo has said about future Genesis additions
Nintendo Support’s FAQ states, “All of the Nintendo Classics libraries will continue to grow.” That is a general statement, not a dated promise to add any specific Genesis game. Nintendo’s April 2025 announcement said that Streets of Rage, ESWAT: City Under Siege, and Super Thunder Blade had been added at that time; it does not establish which games are the latest additions now. Check Nintendo’s published Genesis lineup for the current list.

How to play the Genesis collection on Switch
Nintendo describes SEGA Genesis – Nintendo Switch Online as part of the paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Expansion Pack members can access the classic-game collections while their membership is active. Nintendo Support says games can be played offline, but membership must be verified online every seven days; access ends if the membership lapses. See Nintendo’s Nintendo Switch Online access FAQ for the service rules.
Nintendo lists features such as rewind and online play, and offers a full-size SEGA Genesis Control Pad as an optional controller. The controller is not required. Online multiplayer depends on the original multiplayer features of each game, so it should not be assumed that every title supports the same kind of online play.

Can you play these games on Switch Online today?
Not through the published Genesis collection lineup: none of these ten titles appears on Nintendo’s U.S. list. That could change, but Nintendo’s general statement about continued library growth does not confirm an addition or timetable for any one title. Catalogs can change, so check the official list again when deciding what is currently included.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can original Genesis cartridges be an alternative?
For someone with compatible original hardware, a cartridge is a separate way to play a Genesis release; it does not add the game to the Switch Online app. Sega Support’s notice, updated November 5, 2025, said select classic games and bundles would be delisted from virtual stores beginning December 6, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. PST. It also said owned games would remain in users’ libraries and select titles would remain playable through Nintendo Switch Online. The notice does not establish whether any particular cartridge is currently in stock or available from a given seller. If considering a cartridge, confirm the title and region, condition, console compatibility, seller, and current availability.
