The iPhone supplied the controls; the interface passed their signals to an RC frequency module, which transmitted them to the model. A 2011 product report describes how it worked, but does not establish whether iPhly is available or supported today.
What iPhly was
In a May 11, 2011 report, New Atlas described iPhly as an app paired with a molded case and electronics. The phone fit into the interface, which received signals through the iPhone’s headphone jack and relayed them to an RC frequency module. That module sent the control signal to the model. In other words, the phone did not communicate with the aircraft on its own.
The report said the interface could accept common frequency modules used in conventional controllers. That is a description of the product at the time, not a current compatibility list. An earlier Engadget report from April 18, 2010, described the developing system as interfacing with a standard DSM2 radio-control module.

- Ailerons: rolling the phone left or right.
- Elevators: tilting the phone up or down.
- Rudder and throttle: touchscreen swipes.
- Throttle cut: shaking the phone, according to the report.
Engadget’s 2010 development-era account also described accelerometer-based pitch and roll, with touchscreen controls for throttle and rudder. These are historical descriptions, not controls verified on a current phone or app.
Other features and models mentioned in 2011
The New Atlas article said the case could connect to a PC for flight-simulator practice and that the app could store settings for different models. It also reported that iPhly could control model boats and cars, not only airplanes. Journalist Ben Coxworth summarized the claim this way: “The app can store settings for thousands of different R/C models, and it isn’t just limited to planes – iPhly can also be used to control model boats or cars.” This was a product claim in 2011, not a currently verified specification.

What the historical price report does—and does not—tell you
As iPhly was described as nearing market in 2011, New Atlas reported period prices of US$99.99 for the case alone and US$134.99 for a package that included a frequency module and receiver. Those figures describe the reported configurations at that time; they are not current prices or evidence of present stock.

The available detailed account dates to 2011 and does not verify whether the app is still available or supported, whether the interface is still manufactured or sold, or which iPhone, iOS versions, or radio modules—if any—it supports today. The old reports therefore are not enough to establish that an existing iPhone and RC model can be used together.

Anyone considering a historical listing or secondhand hardware would need current confirmation of the exact interface model, working condition, app availability, iOS compatibility, and radio-module compatibility from the seller or developer. The old launch-era pricing and module descriptions should not be treated as a present-day buying guide.
