A single buzz when you connect a charger can be normal feedback on some Android phones. Repeated buzzing alone does not prove the phone is damaged; check whether the charging symbol or connection also disappears and returns. If the phone shows a liquid, debris, or heat warning, unplug it and follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions.
Why does an Android phone buzz when you plug it in?
Some phones use vibration to confirm that charging has started. Google says of Pixel phones: “When you plug in your phone or place it on a wireless charger, the charging indicator lights up and your phone vibrates.” Pixel’s Charging sounds and vibration setting controls this behavior. Motorola also documents a charging-vibration setting, though labels and menus vary by brand, model, and software version.
So, one buzz right as charging begins may simply be the phone’s normal connection feedback. It does not necessarily signal a problem.
When do multiple buzzes suggest a charging problem?
The number of buzzes is not a reliable diagnosis by itself. The more useful clue is whether the charging state changes repeatedly: for example, the charging indicator disappears and reappears in time with the vibrations. That pattern suggests the phone may be repeatedly connecting and disconnecting, but it does not identify the cause.

Samsung’s wired-charging guidance recommends checking the cable, adapter, connection, port for debris, and power supply. Use a compatible, known-good cable and adapter, and make sure the connectors are seated. These checks can help narrow down an unreliable connection, but they do not isolate a specific fault on their own.
What to do if your phone buzzes repeatedly while charging
- Watch the charging indicator. Note whether it stays on or repeatedly disappears and returns as the phone buzzes.
- Check the charger connection. Make sure the cable is firmly connected at both ends and the adapter is connected to a working power source.
- Try compatible accessories. If available, test with a known-good cable and adapter compatible with your phone. Stop using a visibly damaged cable.
- Look for debris or damage without probing the port. Do not insert a pin, tool, or other object into the USB-C port. Google’s Pixel guidance says, “Do not put anything into them,” referring to the port and cable. For Pixel debris guidance, hold the phone with the port facing down and gently tap it against your hand.
- Stop if there is a warning or unusual heat. Unplug the phone and follow the instructions for the exact warning on your screen; do not keep reconnecting it to see whether the warning goes away.
What to do about liquid, debris, or heat warnings
A warning changes the priority from troubleshooting vibration to protecting the phone. Google says a Pixel USB-C alert can be triggered by excessive heat in the port or cable, or by detected liquid or debris. Unplug the charger and inspect the cable and port without putting anything inside. If the port or cable is wet, let it dry at room temperature. Do not charge through a moisture warning or treat water resistance as permission to charge while wet.

Samsung likewise explains that moisture detection can stop charging to protect the device. Let the phone dry, and seek professional help if charging remains problematic.
Google’s escalation guidance is specific to Pixel: stop using a visibly damaged cable; contact support if an “Unplug charger” message appears more than once or a liquid/debris warning persists for two hours. Those timing thresholds are not universal Android rules. If a port is burned, melted, or corroded, or warnings keep returning, contact the phone maker or an authorized service provider.

Can you turn off charging vibration?
Some phones provide a setting for it. On Motorola software version 14, the documented path is Settings > Sound & vibration > Charging sounds and vibration; turn the setting off. Pixel also documents a setting called Charging sounds and vibration. Menu paths and availability differ, so look under your phone’s Sound & vibration settings or consult its manufacturer’s instructions.
If your phone supports wireless charging, it may be an alternative while you seek help with a wired-port issue. It does not repair the port, and it is not an option on models without wireless charging support.
